Hello everyone! I've just started to look around and plan our trip to Vegas this April, so happy I found this forum, it's so informative.

This will not only be my DH's first trip to Vegas (although I've only been once) it will be his big 5-0 birthday celebration. We are laid back people who like to party and have fun! DH hates to dress up, he's in dress clothes all the time, so we like places he can wear a nice shirt and jeans to. We are more sports bar/rock lounge than we are club/ultra lounge. I'm not too interested in pools, we live and go to a lot of resorts here in Florida, so the pool area doesn't matter to us. Mainly I'm looking for hotel suggestions,(I think Planet Hollywood sounds like it may be our kind of vibe and target area), bars/restaurants, shows not to missed, or any other tips to make this trip fun! We usually spend about $200 a night on rooms when we vacation. We aren't big gamblers but we will gamble some. Black Jack is our favorite game. Any tips, suggestions would be much appreciated!

Welcome!! PH is a fun casino but the average age is low to mid 20's & usually in high party mode. If that sounds good to you, you may enjoy it. Their rooms are not the best and very small. There are so many great options in the $200 a nite range but will need to factor in the resort fees too. Good luck....sure you will receive many great suggestions.

You should check out Mandalay Bay. They have Skyfall and Foundation Room which would be good places for a drink, as well as bunch of bars on the casino floor with music. One usually has a rock cover band. Great dinner options, and Luxor is a short indoor walk away for a change of pace.

Also Venetian has some cool places and Bourbon Room is best rock bar in Vegas in my opinion. I love "Hair Metal" and they have that vide down at that place.

Wow! People who like to party but haven't really been to Vegas. This should be a fun trip! My suggestion is to stay close to Flamingo Avenue. Look at a Strip map and determine which places you want to visit. Nice shirt and jeans should be fine for 99% of the places. $200 is OK for a room on the strip, but it may be challenging to find a nice place for $150 on the weekend. $50 of the $200 will be on taxes and resort fee. I always stay at PH, but the regular rooms are small and has only one small window. Vegas is the busiest in the spring. As you progress towards your trip, do some more investigation on this board, websites, and even YouTube vlogs. And don't hesitate to ask questions on this board.

Welcome! I hope you have a great trip celebrating your DH's milestone b'day on your upcoming trip! I enjoyed my stay at PH, which has led to my Earl of Sandwich addiction. (Earl of Sandwich is a sandwich shop next to the PH sportsbook.) I spend some time in PH at least once a trip. I really like the vibe there.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I was there over 15 years ago and stayed at the Mirage in a suite. It was very nice! Thanks for the welcome.

    .

I love hair metal. That's up my alley! I wanted to stay center strip tho. But I will check those places out! Thank you!

Well we do live in Florida, we have lots of places to party here, but yeah it's going to be a blast! We are probably coming in Mon/Tues and leaving Thursday. DH isn't big on views since we never spend time looking at it. Lol. But if I could swing it I'd love a wrap balcony at The Cosmo. I may adjust that per night budget. I'm used to resort fees as we stay in Orlando resorts and Miami resorts ALOT. We have to usually pay parking too. Thanks for the advice!

Glad you found us, Tizzy. Welcome aboard. Personally, I think you would be fine at PH, it's a fun vibe even if the majority is a younger crowd. If you like to party you will fit right in. Cosmo is my favorite but if you want a wrap around suite you would definitely have to up your budget. What I really like about Cosmo is the terrace with the Bellagio fountain view. I could sit out there for hours. All the rooms at Cosmo are nice and well appointed. If the wrap around is not in your budget try one of the other rooms. The terrace suite is just as nice as the wrap around and the cost is a bit less. Even the terrace studio is nice. Whatever you decide keep in mind that if you book the room yourself through the website and the price goes down after you have booked it you can always phone and get the cheaper rate. Happy planning. :)

If you're not going to be there on a Friday or Saturday night, you should find a decent room for $200/nt. If you want a suite, it will still be quite a bit higher. My suggestion is to stay at least 3 nights. It will go fast enough, but 2-nights travelling from FL will really only give you one day. Even though nobody sleeps in Vegas, you want to at least have some rest from flying out to Vegas, especially if you're going to walk the Strip. The resorts can be quite large so walking by one of them like Caesars or Bellagio can be longer than you expect. I'll try to write about the Monorail and free shuttles and trams (some of these can take time to get to because they may be out-of-the-way of your normal path).

I'm anxious to get out of work to get to Vegas this Thursday night. I'm staying at my usual place, PH. My friends are staying at Vdara. I probably won't make the Dec 3-6 meet-up that's being held, but I'll try to make a future one.

To the OP, Vdara is a nice place. It doesn't have a casino attached, but it's part of the City Centre which is right next to Aria, Cosmo, and Bellagio, and right across the street from PH, Paris, and Bally's. Caesars, Cromwell, and Flamingo are relatively close-by too.
