LOL! I'm sitting here and watched a commercial showing all the great technological advances of the new galaxy phone.

It got me thinking. (I know, my friends think this is dangerous...:evillaugh). Anyway, I'm wondering why... if there is so much tech out there that can supposedly zoom in anywhere on earth with such clarity and detail... how come the surveillance cameras in banks show fuzzy videos of bank robbers getting away after a robbery. I swear the videos look like it came from the late 60's early 70's. WTF?

    Can somebody explain this?

Don't understand this either, we just installed 20 cameras in one of our child care centers. They are 1080 had cameras with sound and they were about $150 each add a HP server to record and stoker the images it cost us less than 5K installed. The imageks are incredible the IR night mages on the outside are awesome also. I have a feeling federal regulations come into play somehow.

    Ain't broke, don't fix it?

I've wondered the exact same thing at times. The resolution on older surveillance systems are terrible. Some are so bad it narrows your suspect down to gender, race, approximate height and weight. Real useful.

It is just a money thing, they use the cheapest equipment and don't update.

Yeah, sometimes I wonder if for the News they (the banks) will give out tapes of the robbery that is fuzzy on purpose, and that their private tapes are clear and sharp, and will be shared with law enforcement to help catch and prosecute the robber.

Maybe it has to do with taking pics of private citizens and showing them on t.v. without their permission (even if it is a scumbag robber) will end up in litigation.

Do you know of anyone that actually got away with bank robbery? Whenever there is a local bank robbery the news usually reports back within 24 hours that the suspect is apprehended. Agree that technology is seemly bad, but somehow it works.

Also keep in mind that banks aren't casinos. They keep a small amount of cash on hand. A sophisticated camera system is expensive versus the risk of loss. The links I found were old, but $20000 seems like a reasonable number to assume a bank has in a branch.
