First off... my stay was great. I would make a lengthy gambling review but we lost all trip so not much to talk about gambling wise.

The setup. 4 nights comped in the Presidential Suite and 200 FP per day (800 total). You may have read my previous post about originally getting an offer for a suite then calling to confirm the dates and being upgraded to presidential suite. Well... at end of trip I realize this was a bad move afterall.

I played here daily... the 200 FP seemed to go crazy fast and I dumped money in this place. Had fun doing it. The presidential suite is huge, but to be honest I didn't see much difference besides the size. A little overkill for us but free is free right?

So my offer mentioned dinner but said to talk to host. So the the day before we left I went to host and asked about it. He also seemed a bit confused about the wording but said it probably was just saying it would be reviewed. He looked over my play and said it was on par with my play from previous visit so he could offer to comp 125 at either Oscars or spread out amongst property. I wasn't sure what my wife wanted to do so I told him I would think about it and get back with him. He said he would be there til 6pm and gave me his card. He was surprised I didn't have a host. Before I walked out I asked if there is a possibility his offer would be reduced based on play that day and he said no it would just possibly go up. Great!

So we walk out and goto iheartradio festival and get back after 6pm. The lady at the players club said we could also charge dinner to our room and wait to have him adjust before checking out so we went to a drawing before dinner at Oscars and I actually got selected. A few people had won 250fp. 1 person won 500 cash. I won a shirt. My luck.

So we goto Oscars and eat a nice dinner. While there the CEO walked by and asked how we were enjoying the hotel. I told him it was great. He asked if we stayed there and I responded sure do yall gave me the room 2502. He said oh the presidential floor, did you get a good deal? I said I would say so... free is an excellent deal. He asked how I was able to get that and I said no idea and explained when I called they said I qualified for it. He asked who my host was and I said I didn't have one. He seemed surprised but gave me his card and told me to email him to get a host. Cool guy. We charge the meal to the room... about 130ish.

So we go to check out from the hotel and I remember about the food so I goto find a host and the guy I talked to was not there so they found another host for me. She asked who my host was and I said I didn't have one and she said "oh you are that guy from oscars!" Apparently the CEO brought it up to her. Anyways I said yeah and she looked over my account and as my luck... the dreaded "unfortunately" comes out of her mouth. She goes on to say she can't comp anything because they try to keep the comp to theo ratio between 30-40% and if she comps my dinner it will put me near 50%. She also advises my theo last trip was over 600 and this trip it's just over 250. I found it hard to believe since I played a lot more this trip than last trip and I lost a lot more too. Perception maybe, I'm not sure, but their machines can't be wrong so ehh. I ask how the comp is determined and she says my theo vs what they have comped. I ask if my ratio would have been lower if I stuck with the regular suite and she said yes it would have been. I mention that the previous host had said he would give me a voucher and I was surprised that changed so drastically in 1 day and she knew exactly who I was talking about. She said he is a little loose on his comps and she is strict. She honored his word without me having to beg and I was out the door.

Which brings me to question... although my comp was great....dinner (130).... initial free play (800).... end of trip additional free play with points (130) and the presidential suite comped 4 nights... should I stick with a regular room next time if we don't care for the glitz and hope for more food credit or stick to best room offered?

Sounds like it. If they are counting the suite as a higher comp dollar cost than a room, then it stands to reason you should be able to get more food.

I'm kind of surprised that if you have enough play to get $200 free play a day, they aren't covering food too. That's a pretty healthy amount of free play. I've started playing at the Plaza more but haven't seen any offers yet. How much coin in do you give them for that?

With only certain machines allowing FP and the FP bartops for VP paying 6/5 DDB, they can afford lots of FP offers.

I hate having to beg for comps. Whenever i hear, "get back to us and we'll review your play", you know the fix is in.

Hindsight is 20/20, but it sounds like you talked your way out of a comp dinner with your comments to the CEO. You didn't ask for the presidential suite, it was an upgrade and his response over comping a $125 dinner seems kind of chicken shit on his part. We all have options.

Yeah sounds like your mouth got you caught up in this one. Though I suppose hindsight is 20/20. Next time take whatever they promise you/will give you, but don't go talking to trouble.

Me personally would just take the lower room, and go for a larger food credit. But, I mostly don't care about the room I'm in as it's just me most of the time. And, who stays in the room that long anyway?

No idea my coin in but the last host I talked to said my theo was 250ish? She said anything above 150 should have a host. Last trip she said it was 600 so I wish I asked coin in but I didnt. I should just email host and ask.

Lol well the first host said he could give me the voucher right then and there but he also mentioned it may increase with more play. I should have just taken the vouchers huh.

Now that I have a little insight on how the process works, I agree! We stayed at the cortez cabana suites and besides the much much larger room area I didn't notice a huge difference. The bed was amazing though but like you said we didn't stay in the room long. We did enjoy the view... but if they said to take a standard room and have all food comped I would have taken that.

I would have taken the voucher without thinking.

I would venture to guess that they adjusted the theo earn on the machines between last trip (Where you earned $600 theo) and this trip (where you earned $250 theo)
A fellow VMBer was there a few months back, and he almost earned NEGATIVE theo! LOL (He played ~$10k coin-in per day on vP, and earned something like $25 theo)

Now I know... and if he only gave oscars as an option I would have... but he then mentioned breaking it over places to eat and figured it would be better to pay for food all day for last 2 days than 1 dinner... but knew wife would kill me if I didn't let her decide. Any decision I made would have been the wrong one of course. Lol

Wow. 10k sounds like a lot. I know I made enough points to cash out 130$ in additional free play at end of trip so not sure what my true theo or coin is would be. I'm now wondering. I'm going to email and ask... got me wondering

Someone can check my math and confirm if they wish. But I have stayed/played at the Plaza before. $1 coin in = 1 point. With every 1250 points ($1,250 of coin) you get back $5.00. It would appear you did this 26 times ($5.00 X 26 = $130.00 in free point play. 26 X 1250 points is 32,500. So your coin in per day, It appears you had an active card for 5 days (4 nights and the check out day when you ate), was $6,500 per day. I'm assuming all slots. If you played a lot of video poker your coin would be higher but your theo would be lower.

Since I don't know their math on Theo I would assume 10% hold on slots (90% payback on average) = $650 ADT loss per day. Comp off 40% of that and you are looking at $260 a day in comps. It the room rate is $500 per night + $200 in free play each day thats $700 in their "value" against your $650 in ADT. In other words, you got them good and they still fed you. If they valued their machines at just a 5% hold thats just $325 of theo and much closer to the $250 they quoted you before that last day on property generating a comp. In that case you Really Really got them good.

Great breakdown. You're right I think I got a great deal, never felt otherwise really. They won my business from El cortez whom I've been exclusive to during downtown stays due to their assistance on a lost item years ago. I'm sure offer will drop but if I was offered a stay again I would definitly do it.

I'm not arguing with your reasoning Grid, but it's the Plaza, $500 per night for a room!

Their website lists 1 bedroom suites at about 175+ 15 resort fee per night over a weekend on average. I didn't see the presidential suite listed and they don't publish pricing on the penthouse suites. Its important to remember that they use the rack rate for their rooms when comping. If you find the same room on expedia for $100. BUT the Plaza says it should be $250 rack rate they use that $250 value towards comping you. Its the same everywhere. If the Presidential suite isnt $500 per night lets guess $300 on average over a weekend + $200 in free play each night is still $500.00 comped upfront with $650 in ADT which is well over the 30-40% you would expect...

I totally believe they would comp rooms and meals at face value.

But would they give free play at face value?

As a teaser I've been over comped free play before to get me back in the door. Just like the rooms it doesn't cost as much as it appears. They know you'll have to play it through and like most gamblers do play it down to nothing. I've been sent $500 in free play as a new comer to a casino. I've returned, played the same or more, and started getting offer more inline like $100-$200 so it happens. My coin-in is sually $8K-$10K all slots per day. And if the Plaza were to give me $800 on a 4 night stay I'd take that in a heartbeat!
