Does anyone of our local VMB high rollers view their gambling the same way they view their businesses? For example, trying receive a certain percentage return or maximizing units of pleasure through time played and comps. Anyone who invests is happy for 30% per year but when I gamble I want a 400% return or better. I've matured in my gambling habits and I'm much more in control. Now I hit and run and simply look to make a 25% return per session. I'm up a substantial amount and I've paid down a large amount of debt run up from stupid gambling.

I don't gamble like I run my investments. My appetite for business risk is much lower. However, your statement of having a more reasonable/mature target rings true for me.

I use the concept of trying to win $200 with a $1,000 bankroll. However, I just start with a larger bankroll. I've found that this has worked for me the last several years. After several sessions over the trip, it begins to add up.

I don't use my winnings from gambling for anything but having fun in Vegas, so just need to have a couple good runs.

Ironically, I'm willing to go in almost my entire bankroll when I go into the red, but get real conservative when up. Go figure right?

I used to try to win the entire house every session and would give back everything when it turned on me.

I've learned just to try to lock in winning sessions.

Several small winners over the course of a trip adds up to a big trip win.

I've had several huge trip wins where I look back and can't figure out where I won all of it.

Just little by little and it adds up quick.

I'm not a High Roller, but I just look at gambling as an expense. I hope to win, but expect to lose.

If my business was gambling, I'd be bankrupt. I have not learned how to lock in the small wins, rather I think 'Now I'm gambling with house money, go for the big win' and usually end up losing my small win and then some.

I have a large bankroll and try to win only a small percentage of it. That approach has worked well for me for a few years now. Often times, I will leave a table after getting up just a few units. Hit and runs are your friend, lol. That adds up by the end of the trip and I usually find myself winning or losing around 15% of my roll. The only downside (for me at least) is when I hit that number early in a trip and want to keep playing. That scenario can sometimes lead to bad results. But like I reported in my last TR, when I hit a certain level, hopefully I can resist the urge to gamble for the remainder of a trip

What do you do to curb the temptation of gambling?

I am nowhere near your levels of play but there are always points, when I am up a decent amount (relative to my BR).

Fill my time with non-gambling activities. On trips with friends, that's easy. It's much harder on solo trips

I have learned to plan enough activities that I don't have all day and night to sit in the casino even if I wanted to.

golf, dinners, shows/events, massages, heck these days I plan so many activities I wonder when I'm going to gamble.

but of course I find the time.

however, I normally only play about 1-2 Bacc shoes a day.

as far as locking in a win, if I'm up big, I will try to stick to playing dice, which allows me to still gamble and enjoy myself, but at a slower, lower pace (usually).

but there still is always that major issue when you hit the first shoe of the trip for really big and now you're stuck.

those are the times when I keep playing, but try to maintain a hit and run strategy to generate some theo and lock in smaller wins at the same time.

that's the main reason I try to keep my trips to 2-3 nights, maybe 4 nights at the longest.

if I hit big the first night and I'm leaving after the next night, that's easy.

Well said. I've reduced most of my trips to quick two nighters and three nighters. The only long trip I have planned next year is during March Madness and there are always plenty of distractions that week

Couldn't agree more with the hit and run strategy, big bankroll book small wins.

I believe Steve Cyr one said "Eat like bird and shit like an elephant" or something to that effect in describing the strategy. We know casinos must hate it because they require 4 hours of play. Also they have been actively avoiding the business of some of our bigger hit and run style friends.

I have had such good results the past 4 years simply walking away IMMEDIATELY after a sizable win. This year in particular has been amazing.

    -- I started out in January with a W-2 hit at rivers....walked.
--May in Vegas , a royal and an $8,400 craps win---took a cab to the bank.
--Got another royal the next day.......low play with that the rest of the trip before another trip to the bank.
--Took an unplanned layover in Vegas in June, set goal of $2,000 win. Gambled 1 hour, hit Quad 4's on $2 boner deluxe with 4X multiplier for $3,200.....walked for the trip after 1 hour of play.
--Went to Rivers to pick up cruise voucher last month, played 1 roulette spin, won $1,950. walked.
--Played in NJ on caesarscasino.com....won $600 something on first try. cashed out, self excluded from NJ online gambling so can't give it back if i wanted to.
--Went to Rivers to pick up gift set of knives. hit a $2,000 quad on boner deluxe, then a $300 hard 8 for $2,700. Walked.

7 separate events in 2015 where I walked immediately on a big win. If I had even given back 25% on each one trying for a heat check it would have been a big bite into my win. I know variance will work against me more often than for me, but when it does work for me, my theory is to GTFO and not let the casino get a chance at a dime back of what is now MY MONEY.

After this years ridiculous run, and especially of late, I know most people would keep going. For me, its a feeling of knowing things have to even out. The casino WILL get its money back if I keep playing. They have NO CHANCE if I don't. The marginal value of a few possible additional wins is less for me than the HUGE feeling of satisfaction I am getting from packing it in for gambling for 2015 with unbelievable memories of being a huge winner.

Of course that could all change if I need to go to Vegas and party.....but my plan is a florida vacation and cruise and no more gambling til 2016. Just want to savor the victory for a bit.

I used to when I played video poker.
    But that got boring.
Now I just take what I'm willing to lose, and play till its all gone.

I'm amazed how changing strategy has moved me from sizeable losses to significant wins.

I used to be able to do friday evening after work to sunday afternoon or red-eye from the DC area and go straight to work every 2 weeks. I highly doubt i can do that kind of trip anymore with my age lol.
