I heard on the 5 Hundy podcast that some Mlife properties are experimenting with drink vouchers for bar top games. The idea is that your bar top machine prints drink vouchers based on how much you play that you then give to the bartender to comp your drink, rather than the bartender just comping your drink based on if you're playing or not.

Has anybody seen this? What properties are they doing this at? In the podcast they only specifically mention the Lobby bar at Mirage.

Supposedly if you're playing quarters you don't get vouchers very often, but they are plentiful at $1 and $5 levels. Curious as to how many hands you have to play before you get a voucher at each level?

Hopefully this is just an experiment and it fails miserably :rolleyes2:

So this was already implemented when I played at The Sands in Reno back in February, although since it was a cheaper property I had no problem generating vouchers on quarters. I was also only drinking beer, so I'm not sure if they take the cost of the drinks into account or if the voucher is good for whatever. I drink fairly quickly and never had an issue getting drink #2 about 5 minutes later.

Well that's good to know. I'm surprised I hadn't heard of this on the board before as I saw a million posts about how Aria Sports Book bar makes you wait 15 minutes between comp drinks. The bartop VP on the strip is already pretty bad at the quarter level so I thought this new voucher system might make it even harder to get a free drink while you're pouring money into bad paytables....

Yeah we were told 20 minutes. Then I found out you can oscillate between bars in about 5 minutes.

    I actually like this idea.
In this way, the bartender has to give you drink if you have the voucher.

if i order a ciroc and mixer i usually give the batender 3-5 dollars, if a machine was giving me vouchers telling me i was entitlted to a free drink i think it would alter my tip lower

So will you need a voucher for the first drink, or just the second?

If you do need a voucher, can you order the drink, run a tab, then use the vouchers to pay the tab?

just a guess as i dont play v/p but its max bet , once u play enough max bet times it prints a vouccher for u to get a drink, then another and another, it doesnt take long to hit that button.

me too, the level of exactness ppl strive for on this board should now be achieved w/ respect to bartop comped drinks.

Lift Bar doesn't go below $1, and the guys there already pour me drinks faster than I can drink them. In addition to the afternoon guys who love me, I once had a bartender yell at me for having an empty glass at 3am, and demand that I let him fill it with vodka...

Maybe the beginning of the end for unlimited comp drinks while playing

The Mirage is testing a system that prints vouchers for drinks after a certain amount of play.

"As with most casino bars, you’re comped your first drink at Mirage’s Lobby Bar, as long as you put at least $20 in the machine. After that, however, you have to earn your drinks, and the decision as to whether you’ve played enough to earn a comp is no longer in the hands of your bartender.

That’s right, your video poker machine decides when you deserve another drink."

Are the tickets transferable? If so I forsee the bottle rats swinging by the bars and hitting up men with stacks of tickets. New Vegas slang: ticket rats?

You may like this, but for me, I think its crazy... According to the article on this, they played quarter max VP and had their first drink comped, but had to wait 1 hr and 5min for
the voucher for the second drink. They said that they maybe talked a little that took up 10min of time, but the rest of the time, they played. That is way too long to have to play
max bet on a quarter machine to get a drink.. Luckily for the authors of the article, they hit a couple of 4 of a kinds and came out 200.00 ahead. So, while they could not get
a second drink, at least the took the casino for some money...

just a heads up about that lobby bar , they dont comp drinks there for vp becuase of the nite club , it used to be jet , now one oak , so i guess this is there way of trying it out to see if they can comp drinks and also do v/p as everyone would try for free drinks while waiting to get into the club so they just didnt comp at that bar.

im sure most people didnt have a clue

Not really. Unless your only goal is to lower costs. How much does that drink cost them? 25 cents? Yet you will certainly alienate a segment of VP players that love playing bartops which I'm guessing would vastly outweigh the savings that would be incurred by the change.

VitalVegas is still sure the Mirage has been sold so maybe MGM is just trying a bunch of random stuff to see the impact as it won't matter how it negatively impacts the Mirage if they aren't keeping it.
