Whats the best thing to do on Freemont?
    Best casinos to enter?
    Stores to stop at?
    Best food to eat?
Any other sites to walk to?
    Any other significance?

Whats special about this place? Is it worth visiting from the strip? Day or night?

Soon to be first timer here.

Eat, drink, gamble, be entertained at less cost than The Strip.

Unlike the Strip there's not really any casino worth going into just for a look around.

Only gift stores selling tourist tat.

Deep Fried Lord-Knows-What down at the Mermaids.

Cheapo buffet at Main Street Station

Steak Dinners at Redwood Grill, Vic & Anthonys, Andiamo, Binions etc.

Craft Beers at Banger Brewing and at MSS.

    The Mob Museum

    Neon Boneyard

Some old school places like El Cortez and Golden Gate have some history.

If you come at night there's the canopy lightshow and free bands to entertain you.

It's definitely worth planning to visit one evening. It's a Marmite place, as we Brits would say, meaning you'll either love it or hate it. Both opinions are valid.

    Drop an "e"?

Sorry it's a rare opportunity to make a spelling/drug pun so I had to take it.

The Fremont Street Experience at night just wandering under the canopy seeing the free/freak show is fun.

The thing is it's all close, you can just wander around and see what strikes your fancy.

Each casino has a different vibe so check them all out.

Shopping Nearby: you can grab a cab and get to the Factory Outlets North (walk is do-able if you take the underpass betwwen the Plaza and MSS or you can wander to Fremont East and visit the Container Park with its Kitchy shops.

Eating options abound, from grabbing a quick slice of pizza to upscale steakhouses and most things inbetween.

The Mob and Neon museum are nearby as well as the AA ballpark for the Vegas 51s.

I find the crowd a little friendlier and often odder Downtown versus the Strip. It has a unique feel, a lot a people enjoy it especially for a evening and some for their entire visit while a few loathe it.

The comfort zone is nicer downtown. Not a lot of flash and dash just people having a good time. The Redwood Bar and Grille at the Cal has an excellent steakhouse at prices much better than the strip. Sometimes the street performers can be a bit much but they don't bite. Somewhat better gaming than on the strip, just not as fancy. The GN has nice restaurants. Everything is an easy walk and you can easily pop in and out of the various casinos. I think you might enjoy it of you never been. A better experience in the evening.

Although Guy posted a pretty good response to each question I would like to add that there are good reasons to enter most downtown casinos to look around. Remembering that downtown is where Las Vegas all started. The Golden Gate Casino has antique slot machines to look at as well as fantastic pictures from Las Vegas' heydays. Free beads from Mermaids and La Bayou.
All the antiques and the piece of the Berlin Wall in the men's room at Main Street Station. (Women can be escorted by security to see it.) Get a photo with $1,000,000.00 at Binion's. Also Binion's and 4Queens has a free pull on a large slot machine. The Hand of Faith and the Shark Tank at The Golden Nugget. Vintage slots at The D. Add the music and light shows Fremont Street is a great place to be.

Andiamo Steak House on the second floor of the D is excellent.

I would plan an afternoon downtown. Head down about 4 and plan to stay past 8 to see the Fremont Street Experience. Start at either end (Main Street Station (just off Fremont)/Plaza or el Cortez at the other end. And then make your way to the other end. Each casino is easy to get in and out of and they are right next to each other. Have a drink in one place, play some, then move to the next. See what you like.

Mob Museum is great but it takes awhile to get through it.

Depending on when you are in town they could have free live music.

Definitely go, well worth it and is a nice break from the Strip.

Definitely easier to get a comp drink downtown. Lowest BJ limits, better bar top VP pay tables are downtown. A lot of times the bars outside have drink specials that are pretty good if you don't gamble. Downtown is definitely the place for low rolling

Pizza Rock I think has the best all around food joint downtown. Try the meatball app and New Yorker pizza is awesome.

My favorite casinos are Golden Gate The D Downtown Grand and El Cortez...

Well I agree VP is better and drinks are good. But I will caution you it can be tougher to get top shelf downtown if that is your style.

I love downtown though, have fun everytime. Everything is close to one another. $3 craps at fremont. $5 bj on weekends with 3/2.

I love the strip don't get me wrong but I do love downtown

Have to agree with this. Stopped there the first time last trip, and I'm hooked. Still need to try the meatballs.

And, if you want to people watch, 4Queens has an outside area where you can drink, and people watch. You'll see a lot more performers downtown. But, you don't have to put up with the porn slappers, or the time share people.

I really like downtown. Dollar stretches farther, and they have just about everything the strip does, but a lot closer. Takes about 5 min to walk from casino to casino. I normally play at either TheD or Golden Gate. If you want a "strip feel" Golden Nugget is as close as you'll get. If you want a good quick meal, check out either Binions or Golden Gate. I always start my trip with the pancakes at DuPars in GG.

    Have fun, and good luck.

I still need to try their pie. It always looks good, but I'm always too full to get any.

The best thing to do downtown is to sit at any video poker bar, preferably the square one which faces Fremont at the Four Queens, put a twenty and a single on the machine, then ask the bartender, "What is the best vodka/gin/bourbon/scotch/tequila you can comp me?" Then order your drink, tip the dollar, play your twenty, hope for the best. Repeat.
