Freemont has 99c margaritas. They're not very good but if you're already drunk they could keep the buzz going.

 

And when I was there you could if you wanted, just have the tequila and hold the green mix

 

If you have one of those empty yard long drink cups take it with you as most places will re-fill it half the cost of a new one

 

It's not a special, but the regular price is so darn cheap it may as well be, Main Street Station's microbrews are $1.75 I think from the bar and $2.25 in the restaurant. I've only ever gotten them comped at Boar's Head Bar or at the tables.

This just sounds like a hangover AND a seizure...

 

Not at the Boar's Head Bar it wasn't. Perhaps you were in the 777 Brewpub?

 

Sorry Joe, I know you're the king of the Boar's Head, but I was charged $3.50 for one of the beers I ordered last time I was there. I don't recall which one it was, I'm guessing I ordered an IPA of some sort. I almost never dine in the brewpub, but make more than one stop at the bar for $1.75 pints during each trip. And it is a fact that I was charged $3.50 for one of the two beers we ordered.

I asked the bartender why the bill for two beers was $5.25 and he said it was because one of the beers I ordered (in early May) was some sort of high octane brew. The bartender may have overcharged me, but I'd bet both your left and right arm that it happened at the Boar's Head. And you can rest safely tonight knowing you'll be able to raise your next pint at the Boar's Head, because on one afternoon in early May I was charged $3.50 for one of the pints at the Boar's Head. The bartender was a bit apologetic for charging me $3.50 for my pint without my knowing the price.

Whether that was a mistake or not, I'll leave for you to decide. You would know better than I would. Perhaps the pricing, if that's standard, doesn't apply to "any" high octane beer, but it applied to whatever it was I had ordered during that afternoon in early May.

How much do they charge for beers inside the precious 777? I am not in love with it like the rest of the world, so I have no idea what a beer costs in there.

 

Sorry, it's just that they usually have the same five beers on tap at Boar's Head and the specialty, seasonal beers are served in the 777. I don't doubt you. I can't be at the bar every month.
Beers in the 777 are $3.50 normally and $2.50 during the 3-6 happy hour, M-F, except during MNF.

 

I don't get there often enough to know the beer selection by heart... I know it's a standard line up, for the most part. Since I'm usually there no more than twice per year, I can't tell if one of the beers on tap deviates from what was there the last time I visited. Perhaps I need to start taking pics of the taps for comparison, just to satisfy my curiosity.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, but I was curious and emailed my bartender friend at Boar's Head. He just replied back that wasn't even possible since there is no $3.50 beer price in their computer at the bar. He's full time and works 40 hrs per week. I would hate to think this, but maybe a shady bartender pulled a fast one on you??

 

Your list sound familiar. I sometimes have a red lager, and I've had the HR Gold. My girlfriend like's the pale ale. We both avoid the porter, and I've been drinking IPAs a lot more in the past year, which is why I think it was an IPA I ordered at $3.50 in May. Price differential aside, it would make sense to offer a limited/seasonal/specialty brew at the Boar's Head, I would think. Here's hoping MSS makes its own Oktoberfest brew, as I should be there in late September.

 

Interesting.... I recognize the woman that often works evenings there, and sometimes I recognize the male bartender working. My girlfriend remembers the male bartenders better than I do... funny how that works. Whichever male bartender it was, he was certain the beer I ordered was $3.50, and who was I to doubt him?

 

Besides bartenders, there are also bar-backs that can also serve drinks. Did you get a receipt with the drink order? Since you paid, I know you weren't playing bartop VP.

 

What about those loooong drinks at Bayou.

 

My limited experience: Buy the small one if you're going to be downtown for a while, and then get a refill at a discount. I had two of those small ones on Halloween night a few years ago. I could feel it. The taller the yard drink, the more watery it gets at the bottom.

Also, you can sample a flavor before you buy it. I ordered something I thought I was interested in, and the bartender gave me a sample so I'd be sure I liked it. I tried the sample, and it wasn't what I had imagined. It wasn't as good. I ended up ordering something else, and tipping her an extra dollar for her wisdom.
