On a February trip I reached Sterling level, which gives you one comp night which I used in July.

In July, I reached Gold level, which gives you two comp nights and two "companion" comp nights.

Next trip will be in January.

    • Does having used the Sterling comp night burn off one of the two Gold comp nights, or do I get two "new" ones?
    • What's the story with the "companion" nights?
    • Do they have to be for a separate room on the same dates, or can you string them back-to-back with the regular comp nights?
    • Do you have to put the companion nights in someone else's name?

    Thanks...

How did you book these rooms once achieved? Through a host or through the identity desk?

    I'm intrigued about these too

To partially answer your question, I just booked using the regular reservations line.

For my July trip, I had originally booked a Terrace Suite for Tues - Sat using one of their publicly available 33% discount offers. I knew I had the Sterling comp coming, so I decided to use it to just book a regular room for Monday night, then move to the suite on Tuesday.

I also had a casino marketing offer via email for two comp nights (not a suite) midweek. I didn't realize Cosmo would upgrade a comp night for a fee.

When I called the regular reservations line to add Monday as a comp night this is how the agent hooked me up:

    • Mon & Tues: AAA Rate + Resort Fee + tax
    • Weds & Thurs: Marketing comp +$150 a night upgrade + Resort Fee + tax
    • Fri: Sterling comp + $200 upgrade fee + tax (no resort fee).

All nights were in a Terrace Suite and it ended up being $100 less for 5 nights than the reservation I originally had for 4 nights.

    So I learned 3 things:
    • Cosmo has an AAA rate (I had seen this when looking at the Marriott site, but thought it might only be available through Marriott. It was 15% off rack).
    • Cosmo will let you upgrade a comp for a fee
    • A comp night associated with your tier level can be used on a Friday (and probably Saturday).

From what I was told, if you hit Gold in the same year (rolling) as you hit Sterling, the comp nights are separate. So having used your Sterling night, you still get 2 Gold nights.

However, the comp nights don't stack. If you don't use your Sterling night prior to attaining Gold, you lose it and end up with just the 2 Gold nights. This is what the Identity VIP reservations line told me, although the Identity desk at the casino initially told me otherwise. When I called to book, I learned that I had essentially lost the Sterling night since I didn't use it before reaching Gold. Ended up just booking a night at the Palazzo instead and will move to the Cosmo for two marketing nights afterward.

Speaking from experience (I'm assuming it changed). I had a grand total of three comp nights from being sterling-then gold. One night from hitting sterling, two from hitting gold.. not counting companion nights. I never used the sterling night before using the gold, yet still had all three to use. This was way before the sale, so maybe/probably that got straightened up.

Going the other way, from Gold to Sterling, I had used one of my two Gold Nights, I bumped down to Sterling and had no nights left to use. Luckily I will bump back up to Gold on my next trip.

Those look like pretty expensive upgrades if you ask me, when i stayed there (admittedly in Late June/Early July) they offered me the upgrade (from a terrace studio) to a wraparound terrace suite for $75+tax for the weeknight and $100+tax for the weekend nights, i think you can hold out for better deals on the day but i guess thats a bit more risky...

Yeah, I needed to lock the room type down in advance.

They do give Identity Points for the upgrade fees, so there's essentially a 5% rebate. Plus, that spend put me over the top to reach Gold tier, which comes with 2 + 2 comp nights.
