I’ve always enjoyed a short visit to a unique casino... Mermaids... with their “girls” and $1.29 Nathan's hot dogs... fried twinkies and oreos.... ... but I understand it has changed.... how?

Not my favorite place, but sometimes you need a hotdog. :poke: Looked the same to me in April, but we have never gambled in there if that is what you are referring to?

wife "loves" the place.... took her twice... first time she hit for a 1000 quarters and they had to refill the machine....second time
she hit a jackpot on a nickel machine... coins were falling all over the place and then it ran out.. the "slot doctor" had to fill the machine...

one thing about that place....you won't go thirsty....

They've definitely cleaned it up a little. New carpet, newer machines, etc. I kinda miss the old "divey" feel, and if they wanted to clean something up they should've cleaned those DISGUSTING bathrooms. On another note, why the hell do they close at midnight? They kicked us out when they closed...we were like WTF?

The recent change at Mermaids is that all of the machines have been converted to TITO. No more slots accepting and paying out coins which was the primary draw of the place (and the fried food).

If you want to still play slots with coins then head across the street to Le Bayou.

Aren't those two places under the same ownership/management?

Bummer. We make one day trip downtown every year; this year's is coming up in a few weeks. We love Mermaids because of the dirty hands you get from collecting nickels and being able to play some of the fun older games you don't usually find anywhere else. Love the Russian cocktail waitress, and enjoyed the feeling of being a High Roller when you collect about $100 out of a slot and they put on a big show by showering you with beads and whatnot. And what BlacklabberMike said...you won't go thirsty. Those plastic cups always seem to go down a lot faster than bottles or cans.
