How about the new bar at the Fremont, Filament, is the name I think.

It is dark and has kegs on the wall for decorations. There are about 7 or 8 of the larger poker machines at the bar. Most importantly there are no prices on their drink menus.... I'd say about 30 machines were removed overall. We popped by Sunday at 11am and it was not open with the bar machines blocked off. Looks like a smaller, more refined version of the D's long bar. Has it opened yet?

and what have they done to the old area that was the bar??

It needed to be moved... much too close to the machines there & too small.

They had these on the bar yesterday.

It's lit up when open. Aside from the bar they have some tables. The bartender said I had to play $20 with max Quarters to get comped a domestic bottle. No craft beers are comped. He said they did at first.

(I am not sure anyone knows this but....) Is this a "test case" for Boyd? Poor paytables (ok, poorer) and conditions on drink orders / beer? I love the MSS Boar's Head bar and the paytables, bartenders, and ability to order brews from MSS brewery and even asking for the best drink made with ...........(fill in alcohol choice).....

This seems like the approach someone who "contracted" with the hotel to open a bar might take as it seems foreign to me. I wonder if those playing penny slots less than 100 feet from the bar can order and receive comp drinks from the menu......very weird.

I'd appreciate an update, but sounds like shitty Fremont bartops.

The main bar at Fremont only had 6/5 Bonus (96.87%) when I checked it. This place probably does too, but not too shocked this place sucks.

No craft beers comped...that's laughable. Long Bar at D will and they have 8/6 Boner (98.49%+prog.)

TAG bar at Linq even has better games (well...one better game), is on the strip, and comps 200ish beers.

For Boyd, it's pretty shameful overall.

That's a scary thought, don't mess with the MSS! But as tringlomane points out, the main bar @ Fremont already sucks on bartops so maybe nothing to worry about. When I first heard that a bar was coming I envisioned it would be outside. Seems odd to take away slots

So did they tear out the old bar??
    Or are there 2 now?

I agree with retro above.... removing all those slots? I don't get that.

Sue, I believe they have both bars. Maybe the intent is to have better service throughout the casino? Nah

I don't get it either. I thought they were gonna make the bar outside. The casino is small enough as it is. Oh well, I hope they thought it out otherwise what a joke.

Always get a good laugh when places list Blue Moon and Angry Orchard as "craft" beer.

Does that give them three bars now? Or have they taken out one? Draft beer in back bar near buffet last time I was there was comped, no questions about how much you were betting on machine.

Yep, thought they were going to try to get in on all the traffic that walks by / hangs out for shows

Just another upgrade idea from the Strip. As much as I would like to be the demographic of the week, you actually don't make a lot of money giving premium alcohol to a guy playing quarters on a 99% machine. You do make a lot of money by charging premium dollars for cheap beer at a nice bar, and maybe the guy with the wallet drops five bucks into your crappy 6/5 machine while his girl looks over the $8 drink menu. Only difference between this and the standard Strip experience: about five dollars.

El Cortez had a classic downtown Las Vegas video poker bar with ten player stations, no service rail for nonplayers, easy comps, and a piano player. They converted it into The Parlour, added a martini menu, decreased the number of machines, increased the minimums, added a cocktail waitress and lounge area for nonplayers. Seems to have been a pretty good business decision for them because they haven't shown any signs of going back.

All of that Zappo's money has done a lot to improve downtown, and the casinos are going to look for the younger crowd to stay in business. I think it has been at least five years since the Las Vegas marketing people have even mentioned gambling in their television ads.
