I've seen a few posts that silver strikes obtained at various casinos. How do you get one and how much do they cost? Do all casinos have them? I'm figuring in the gift shops?

Silver Strikes are distributed through Slot Machines.

Most of the Silver Strikes distributed today are NOT silver, but silver plated brass.

There are six casino in Las Vegas that have Silver Strike slot machines.

    Mirage (2)
    Venetian (1)
    Palazzo (1)
    Sam's Town (1)
    El Cortez (1)
    Four Queens (6)

They are all Double Diamond reel machines that cost (3) quarters to play.

For more information please go to:

    www.silverstrikers.com

You can also buy them at sites like eBay. There you can find the "silver" Silver Strikes. All "silver" Silver Strikes that ".999 silver" stamped somewhere on the strike.

Also note that if there are silver strike get togethers or tournaments you may be able to buy some strikes from those players. Check the strike web site for details on tourneys.

I was at the 4 queens a few years ago when they had a tourney. One guy sold me 4 strikes for $40 and one of them was one of the "special" strikes that were in the red containers (had a silver content unlike the normal ones that hardly have any anymore). He played and won a lot of strikes and since he already had them he didn't want/need anymore so just wanted to dump them and he threw in a real strike for my troubles.

Someone once mentioned that it may be possible to ask at the cage if they have extra strikes available (mostly sell for $10 each) since some people sell them back to the casino but I haven't heard of this occurring lately.

But as others have mentioned, just put your money in the strike machine and play and hope you win some. Or else go to ebay and see if you can buy some there.

I have also seen them at the Golden Gate, unless they don't have them anymore.

I am a member of the Silver Striker club.

The $300 strikes are distributed 4 times a year. At those times, new red and blue "cap" (capsuled strikes) are released. Tournaments (gatherings) are in January and June. The other distributions are at St. Patrick's Day and Halloween. The complete schedule is on the Silver Striker webpage at:

    www.silverstrikers.com

The next tournament is June 26th-28th. There is a $300 strike distribution on Saturday the 27th at 5PM and a trading session upstairs on the second floor of QQQQ at 6PM.

I got one from a machine at Venetian a few weeks ago. Took less than $5 in the machine.

The old coins were very cool.
Then the silver was worth more than the silverstrike and collectors popped it out and had it melted down. I bought up a bunch of rings from a collector rather than let that brass go to scrap as well. Some of them are the right size for a Kennedy half dollar so I make up a few and sell them cheap at the poker tables each trip because they make fun card protectors. I have about half what I invested back. The rings also work great for home poker games when chips are all bought up. We use one ring to equal 20 chips. Works better than a colored chip.

It is hard to believe that new investors will recoup any profit, but these are fine souvenirs.

I don't play slots but SS's are cool as hell. I've bought some and put them away, now I need to find them and see what I have :)

    Hey Now!
Great bench seat at the Venetian. Here's a couple of pics of it. I've been collecting strikes for about 4 years- got started way too late. I've noticed that most of the few remaining casinos that have them don't pay much attention to them. Sam's Town has had the same coins in their one remaining machine for a couple of years. I won a colorized strike there in Jan. that had the color flaking off of it.

I get them more for the "oh cool" factor than the collecting side. I don't think I'll make money on them, but everyone that I've shown them too thinks they're really cool.

For poker players, they make good card protectors.

We got married in Feb 02 and many of the Silver Strikes we got were millennium 2000 ones. We have one from Barbary Coast, The Hilton with the Star Trek emblem and one a few years later from the airport with a 9/11 tribute. Some are lame like the ones we have from Bellagio, Monte Carlo and one locally with Bat Masterson from the lawmen of the west series. All the ones we have are .999 silver and I quit trying for them when they all stopped being silver. The one I am upset I didn't get was from the Stardust, I didn't walk down there and it was gone by my next trip. The silver in them is worth $10 when the price of silver is over $16.67 and overall I paid less then $10 each (some took more to win but some were very cheap).

Just a quick question, I won about 22/30 that I need to get the $300 coin.

The lady at the cashier in Venetian was kind enough to show me the $300 coin.

Can I just walk up and get the coin whenever I want from the cashier once i have the 30? Or is it only certain times during the year?

Is there a limited number of these $300's to give out? (mintage wise)

    Thanks!

The Four Queens distributes them four times a year, (January tournament, St. Patrick's Day, June Tournament, and Halloween) and they typically don't last more than 16 hours. The Four Queens only makes 148 available to the public each distribution cycle.

At the Venetian/Palazzo, like the Mirage, anytime they have 'em you can get 'em.

The Mirage and Venetian/Palazzo do not have any limit to the mintage.
