Is tipping the valets when dropping off the car effective? Does it make the pick-up of your car any faster? What is the recommended amount? $5/$10/$20?

    Thanks!

I also tip $5 when i get my car, they keep my car close up top and give me the keys to drive it off myself which i like...it wasnt always like that though. had an issue last year and the valet manager kept running me around why he couldnt keep my car uptop...most of it was all lies. then he slipped up one night when i wasnt in a mood to take anyones crap and told me they didnt keep it up top because i dont spend enough...."i made almost 300k tier points last year" so i made a call to casino GM and now the guy kisses my ass when i come in and never had an issue parking close again

$0 at drop off. $2 at pick up. $3 if they are quick about it. After about 10 minutes of waiting the tip dwindles down.

I only tip on pickup. I only tip on drop off if there is luggage assistance involved or if I have an unusual need, like keeping the car out because I will be right back out.

I bring a $50 stack of singles every trip for tips of all kinds.

For valet, I tip $2 for drop off and $2 for pick up.

We had a car in Vegas for only the second time this past weekend. At least at the MGM and CET casinos the most effective thing is having a high tier. You get next in line priority with Platinum at MGM and Diamond at CET. Our car was always the first or second to come out at Aria even though there was usually a decent crowd of people already waiting.

The tip wouldn't have mattered. Maybe if it is unusually large it would but otherwise these places have so many different valets working and the guy who takes your car is different then the guy who takes your ticket when you pick up who is different then the guy who goes and gets your car. If you have one of the higher tiers your name gets put on the top of the list. It doesn't matter if another guy gave a $20 to the valet who took his car when he dropped it off.

Lots of info on some previous threads on valet tipping...

Is tipping on drop-off "effective" or help in getting you vehicle any faster? I doubt it, but I always tip both ways, cause I figure someone is doing me a service both times. I'm a $5 both ways kinda guy.

Depends which car I drive. If its the daily then it $5 at drop of and $5 at pick up. If its the sports car, its alittle more at drop off so they hopefully are more careful and $5 on pick up

If it's my own car (which it isn't in Vegas) I'll tip on dropoff too.

Snidely, not too tough to "dwindle down" from $2 though.
Sometimes they're slow if a show is breaking.
And in summer, the guys running in the heat make it a bit of a tougher job no?

Wow. Some cheap M'Fers in here.

To not tip at any point is not acceptable.

    It's called etiquette.
And if you can't at least drop $2 to a valet, yet easily drop that same $2 in a slot machine... You are a scumbag.

I despise people that are cheap, and lack common etiquette.

According to Emily Post you should only tip when the car is picked up. EP is pretty well regarded as common etiquette.

I rarely Vallet Park , but when I do I tip both ways usually about $2. Does that make me cheap? I don't think so.

What I hate is tipping the guy who whistles for the cab outside the casino. It just seems pointless to me when the cabs are all lined up.

How would they know? When they park, they have to take the car before they get a tip. When they bring it back they don't know what tip they will get :)

Personally, I always tip when I pick up and if I have a couple of bucks I tip when I drop off. Each of those people is doing you a service. I never give more than $5 overall though.

I drive my GF's BMW 335i in Vegas and that's what we valet. There it is just a very average car. Unless you're driving a Bugatti I wouldn't bother tipping more.

Does Emily have any guidance for how much to tip Destiny after a 4 song lap-dance in the Champagne Room at 3 a.m.?
