Why in the world would a slot manufacturer have a machine that you could possibly plug in a USB and somehow modify payouts, or screw with software?
Question #2, what would you use it for? Just to charge a phone?

The Venetian has recently installed these on their machines. I don't know of any other casinos that have though as of yet. I'm sure that the USB is not wired into the actual slot in any way, it's just probably cut into the slot housing and has a power supply, so that people can charge their phones. With the amount of use most people give their phones now, the batteries rarely last a full day, especially when you're in Vegas bopping around, taking pictures, texting, etc.

Quite frankly, it's pretty genius for a casino. It doesn't cost them much, and it keeps people from having to go up to their room and sit around waiting for their phone to get a charge. Instead, they'll plop down at a machine and the majority will end up blowing money while they wait.

That is a good idea. One of my family members is always seeking a charge and it'll be convenient to use one while on the slots.

I've often wondered why this hasn't caught on. To me, it's logical business sense. Don't give your customers a reason to go sit in the room when no revenue can be generated (I guess room service and pay per view movies could be purchased while waiting to charge). If a phone is almost dead it could take some time to get a full charge. I bought a rechargeable portable battery charger on Amazon prior to my October trip and loved it. I could get 1.5 full charges out of it before it needed to be recharged which meant I could go out and hit the strip and not have to think about how I used the phone or when I'd need to schedule time to go back to the room to recharge.

It would be a lot easier for the world to just get rid of their battery killing Iphones and buy a power sipping Samsung Galaxy instead.

I've seen some iPhone users get better battery life than my Android phones.

I would just buy some of the smaller power banks that you can buy on Amazon for $10.

Whatever the technology to which one is wedded (or not), even if a new service isn't something that will be used, it's always good to see service providers provide more services, small or large. Of course, in this instance, the ulterior motive is not exactly pure.

One of the problems is that people will connect to the USB port to charge their phones but not gamble on the machine so you may have people just coming in to charge their phone. I've seen this in places that provided USB ports to charge phones, people didn't spend money but used the facilities to charge up.

In the long run the ports on the machines should be useful because many people will sit and charge their phone and hopefully put in play there but you will still have others that sit but do not play.

I had a similar problem 2 weeks ago at Sam's town (not USB related). About 10 people were just sitting on a bank of slot machines chatting but not a one was playing. I went elsewhere and returned 45 minutes later....and they were still there sitting and chatting. I finally asked them if I could use one of the machines and they looked at me in horror but finally and reluctantly they all moved......to another bank of machines, still not playing either. I was waiting because I wanted to play on the silver strike machine.

I have a flip phone also. It is my just in case phone that I can use if needed. I pay $20 every 3 months and I actually have over 600 minutes on it because I hardly use it and only give my number out to family and friends. I have a regular land line at home and not into the things most people do with their smartphone so I don't have a need for one at this time.

Edited to add: since I hardly use my phone and I don't play games on it I usually need to charge the phone every 7 to 10 days. I've had the phone for over 6 years so the battery is winding down, before I could go almost the whole month before it needed to be recharged.

I've only seen this at V/P.

+1 on the portable power banks. I have a few for my phone and iPad when I fly.

I was wondering about this. If these are designed to only charge when the machine is in play? Does anyone know if they charge if not in use?

With both it's really just about tweaking with your settings for maximum life while still meeting your usability requirements, it's just that the Android user tends to be more of a tweaker, and not the meth kind.
