I'd rather not answer the first question so I can maintain my anonymity but I'm not from Vegas. I'm started in a regional market and moved here because of a job.

I just think Vegas is OK. It beats working at a casino in the middle-of-nowhere, certainly, but it lacks a lot of cultural diversity, is very transient so hard to make/keep friends, and lacks a real sense of community. Everyone is in it for themselves (which I get because that is why so many people move here - to better themselves) and it gets old.

Thanks for taking the time to do this!

I'm wondering, what is the minimum time one might get rated for during a blackjack session? Do pit bosses get annoyed if you give them your players card and you only end up staying a short while?

Thanks Boss for answering these interesting questions. I have one too...it seems like a lot of the pit bosses and dealers know me by sight and name at the Wynn, am I paranoid in thinking they have my picture posted somewhere for bigger players in house or is it probably because I go there so often...always wondered.

Also, I noticed dealers always try to "sell" players on certain bets like new dealer tie in baccarat and come out yo in craps, or hardways. Is that a requirement by the casino to "push" those high casino edge bets?

I wonder the same? I might go into the host office to get my play and to my surprise a host who I have only seen in passing knows who my host is and my name? I play nothing like Nate but do go there 10 times a year. And I play a unconventional way. I really don't like that employees that I never had an encounter with know me. Disconcerting. Sometimes it feels like they are zooming in on me and can count the zits on my face. Obviously I don't really care as I have nothing to hide and keep going back but just wondering if this happens. Maybe they use me as a promo to show other employees what a happy guest looks like. LOL

I think that dealers, floormen, hosts......all talk about players, big runs etc. Packer, if you're there 10x a year.....they would know you. I'm there almost as much and definitely dealers, floor people, cage personnel etc know me by name. I've had a floor man that I don't know come up to me and say " I heard you went on a good run last night and had a 50 minute roll". I don't bet in you league. My average bet may be about $250, but I know dealers make it a point to remember players.

Yeah I would think you're known by just being there and being nice to the dealers and floor people and of course tipping well.

The dealers at the local joints I go to in Louisiana know me because I'm there often enough for them to remember me, plus I tip well and of course I usually always have something Phillies, Eagles, Sixers or Flyers on so that helps.

I'l chime in on the "know by name thing as well"...

I'm primary a slot player and plenty of times I'll ask the attendants in the HL room to request a cocktail server or make small talk etc...without even looking at my players card, they often say at the end of the conversation "Good Luck Brian"...

I'm pretty sure that even the slot hosts (at least in the HL room) are "made aware" that you are there!

I think that slot hosts, slot managers are "made aware" of premium players playing slots anywhere on the floor. I've been approached by slot hosts and slot managers when playing in the regular casino(not HL). They usually just stop by and say hello and "if you need anything.........."

BTW GChrome...........you have a twin on the board. Someone is using the same face!

Casinoboss – great thread, thanks for your insight and thoughtful responses.

What is your 5 year outlook for gaming in Vegas, will gaming revenues as a percent of overall revenue continue to decline? For strip properties the percent of revenue from gaming is down to 37%, is there a threshold where the mix of gaming revenue to non-gaming becomes a major concern?

It's really a function of the size of the property.

Clearly, trying to fill 3,000 rooms with 75% non-gaming revenue at Cosmo with little high end play is not tenable. You just can't get enough room revenue to pay for operations.

Back in the day, while I don't know the revenue mix, 650 rooms filled primarily with non-gamers at Hard Rock was sustainable.

Obviously, the more gaming the better.

That is a very interesting post. There are a lot of posts on VMB from people complaining about resorts fees, a lack of comp rooms etc. People should gamble within their own budget, but the $100 a day gambling budget is not keeping the lights on. I don't think threatening to take their business elsewhere makes any difference to the casino. Of course the casino values ALL of their guests, but I think micro rollers over estimate their impact of moving their play downtown (if you can find a place without resort fee).

You don't think those sexy cocktail waitresses are talking with the staff about what/who they did last night? :wink2:

i understand that most major casinos have a daily "Players" (or "Arrivals") list for pit personnel (including hosts) that lists players above a certain criteria that have reservations for arrival that day or are already in the house. You were probably on that list. Years ago a floorman showed me his list and there were about 10 names on it that day.

Perhaps Casinoboss can comment if such lists are still typically used, and if so, comment on the criteria for player inclusion. With computers, there is no reason why a list of every credit line or front money player currently in the house couldn't be maintained in real time for viewing by pit personnel.

I've heard before they're also alerted when your card is being used in a solt machine for example. I've been approached at several machines in different czr's properties by employees saying hi; introducing themselves etc.

CET keeps track of their 7 star players at table games by marking their spot at a table game as soon as they sit down so that the floor person, dealers and CWs all know that they have a 7 star player at that table.

Great thread! I have a question. I sat down for about an hour, played $25 a hand of blackjack, but when I went to go ask for my rating, I was told $23 a hand. Why was it$23, when I played a consistent $25 a hand?

    Hi Casino Boss,

Similar to bedaniels question, if my wife and I are at the sane or even different tables can we both use my players card and be rated as one person with a larger play amount or is it best to use separate cards?

It's usually not a minimum time, but a minimum bet. Yes, they'd likely get annoyed with you. Plus if you anticipate staying only a short while I might advise against get rated because it will pull down your average daily theoretical worth (ADT).

    Remember ADT =

avg bet x decisions per hour x house advantage x TIME PLAYED
