Im coming in next week (cant wait)..... booked a 2 BR Tower Suite about 6 months ago. I called last week to recfm my reservation and let them know when Id be arriving and in conversation they advised me that there is no guarantee that I would get my booked suite.....since it is a very busy time and they are sold out, and there always is the possibility that people who are staying there may decide to extend their stay. Im like "WHAT!!!??" They said its not likely but if it happens they will make sure Im put in some other room... if this happens.

I adivsed them I booked this through Mlife 6 months ago and actually had to put a deposit of 1/3 down...but she advised me it wouldnt matter.

My wife accuses me of being a worry-wort.....but should I be worried?

I dont go to LV very often and since its my birthday decided to splurge a bit on a 2 BR suite..... for the experience.... a free comped room or 2 in return would not make up for it as I could have gotten comped rooms at any Caesers properties (As I gamble in AC often) but choose Mirage for the suite....

On a comp, the suites are not guaranteed, but did not know they are not guaranteed for a paid reservation either...that sucks. I have been bumped from a comped Hospitality suite before, but they actually ended up putting me in a tower suite.

At all hotels worldwide, room types aren't guaranteed. The only thing the hotel has to do is offer you a room. Of course, they should also refund you the difference in room rate if you're to get downgraded.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, OP. If you're to get downgraded make sure they refund you the difference in room rates and offer you some form of compensation.

It's happened to me on my last two trips.

At MGM Grand arriving on a Monday of what should have been a slow week (week after CES) with a reservation for a Penthouse City View Suite, I got downgraded two levels to a Tower Spa suite because the occupants didn't leave on schedule.

At Aria on a Sunday in the middle of July, had a reservation for a Corner City View suite; again, the occupants didn't vacate (I was already staying at Aria, so I actually went to the room and put my ear to the door to see if I could tell they were packing, lol), but instead of downgrading, because of what happened at MGM Grand, I had printed out the rates for a bunch of other suites at the time I made the original reservation (5 or 6 months prior), and was able to swing a deal for an Executive Hospitality Suite at a good rate.

When you make your reservation doesn't matter, all that matters is the situation when you arrive.

My situation in both cases was complicated by the fact that I wanted a smoking room, which obviously cut down on the number of rooms available, MGM Grand only had two or three of that room type, and Aria only had two.

I don't know how many 2BR Tower Suites Mirage has. Unfortunately the only thing you can do is have a Plan B and C ready in case it occurs. Like lotso-bear says, if you get downgraded, try to make sure 1) you get the correct rate for the room they put you in, 2) they shouldn't charge you the current walk-up rate for that room, 3) they really should give you some resort credit to take the sting out (even though it doesn't).

If you don't get your reserved room on check in, you can check on the original room status the next morning and see if it's opened up.

    It doesn't make any sense!

I don't understand. Why would a hotel side with somebody who extended the stay (against what has been agreed) and not with the one who follow the rules????? If this is the norm, can I reserve a room from Dec, 26 to Dec, 29 and than "decide" to stay for NYE which is fully booked? :wink2:

It's a good question. I don't know if there are any regulations that say a hotel has to let a guest stay in a room if they can pay and aren't disruptive. It's entirely possible that the "prior guest isn't leaving" is just BS to make it look like something the hotel can't control vs something they can (overbooking).

My instances also demonstrate that you aren't always going to get upgraded as a courtesy in those situations, especially when there's not much room to go up. At MGM, the only higher level room type was a Skyline Terrace and they weren't going to cut me any slack on the rate ($700 a night vs $225 for the room I had reserved for 5 nights). At Aria, at least I was able to work with the front desk to get a good rate on the hospitality suite and I'd always wanted to stay in one, so it worked out OK.

If for any reason the 2 bd tower suite isn't available request the 2 br penthouse suite. Square footage is identical with the only difference being higher end furnishings in the penthouse.

5 years ago, when they remodeled all of the 1br and 2br suites, I reserved a 2br suite in Feb. for a trip in July. When we got there, we were told that they weren't finished remodeling the 2br suites and they didn't have one for us. They offered to put us somewhere else in a 2br suite. Long story short, ended up in a 2br Penthouse suite at Bellagio, center, fountain view room. Same price as the Mirage suite. Just wanted to let you know what they CAN do for you. You will probably be fine, but maybe have something in mind in case it does happen.

Sadly, this is standard in all reservations, but rarely happens. But when it does, it really pisses people off. I've known of MGM Grand not having a booked Terrace Suite available until the next day. They will work with you to come to some sort of compromise though.

Most likely, the person staying over paid a premium for the room or is a well established player there at the casino.

This is the key point. The time you arrive. If it's near check in time, you will most likely be fine, but, if you wait around or get in late in the evening, those rooms could be filled up by the time you check in.

If you think there may be a problem, explore your options like Chuck2009x did above before hand. Knowledge is power and you may be able to swing a better room after being bumped.

Well what I do have going for me is that i should be arriving around 1:30pm-2:00pm...which should hopefully should help. And I had planned to as suggested above if a bump does occur my first request will be the Penthouse Suite...and then the Bellagio 2BR suite (which I will mention for arguments sake as there is no chance of this happening).

What worries me is I have little gambling leverage with them as I have no Mlife playing history (just received Platnium status through Hyatt Diamond match).....but I could offset this by accidently handing them my Caesers Total Rewards DIAMOND card....which could go a long way....

Again the whole point of getting a 2 BR Suite and paying out of pocket is to stay in this suite for my birthday.... so that is what im pushing for....I could have easily got 2 rooms at a Casesers propery comped if I had wanted to....

I would totally go for the Bellagio suite if you don't get what you want at Mirage. I think the fact that we were paying full price for the room we reserved at Mirage gave us the better chance for Bellagio, as it probably would you too. We had no leverage at all from MLife play. If you played that much to have leverage, Mirage would do what they could to keep you at their casino.

When I booked a Skyline Terrace Suite at MGM at the Mlife rate, the host told me the room wasn't guaranteed. However, he said if I booked it at the regular rate it would be guaranteed. So if you book the Mlife discount you're technically on a "comp," so there is a possibility of getting bumped if a bigger player comes in and wants that room.

Yes, I remember being told that too, when I was looking at booking one.

However, it doesn't factor in the possibility of overbooking or all of those suites being booked and then someone doesn't check out.

Ultimately, there's really no guarantee. If you have a reservation and some whale wants the room and gets to them before you do, they're going to get the room.

So, let's say you book a Sky Suite at Aria or some other room type that includes things like airport transfer & private checkin then get bumped. Will they send that out regardless and then figure out the room accommodation once you arrive?

unless you are staying at a super busy time (holiday weekend, or major convention time) you will be fine. Casino's have always reserved the right to bump customers out of suite's as they are there first and foremost for their "high rollers". It's simple economics - even if you are paying full rate for the room, they can win many times that from the High Roller in the casino and would rather have that person in the room.

I may have said that incorrectly. I meant would they call you ahead and tell you the room is unavailable, so the amenities will not be provided?
