PP is becoming a “noodle” themed place, plus after 10 PM the food stops and they are going to have music, DJ,s etc, going into the wee hours. That is the word from the bartenders, so take it for what’s worth. Supposed to open around Christmas, so I’m expecting they definitely will want to be open by NYE.

Glad my gang finally ate there in August. The CAL is our home casino and when in Vegas, we are probably playing cards there every evening. With the clientele that the CAL mainly attracts, seems like an odd concept to have music coming out of that small area onto the gaming floor.

    Noodles?

They expanded it. The first floor cashier cage is gone. That is now part of the new restaurant.

Noodles- I don't know? There are Noodle fast food restaurants around here and I guess you could say the menu is mostly Asian/Pacific Rim? This is a menu from the Noodles chain:
    http://www.noodles.com/food/

Not saying it is the chain that is taking over, just that kind of themed food, supposedly.

Where did they move the main floor cashier cage to? p.s. I don't do well with changes!

    Hello,

One cage is at the top of the escalator by the restrooms. The other is out near the "Buddha" and registration area. These may be temporary, I don't know.
    Good luck.:beer::beer:

Makes you wonder if they even understand their clientele. Do they expect the senior aged Hawaiian ladies are going to be grinding to the DJ's music in the "club"? Or that 100's are going to leave the Cosmopolitan to hang out at the Cal's new "Hot Spot" at night?

What I posted about the food, music etc was just what I heard from two bartenders. It could be one of those circular rumors. It just goes round and round and changes each time.

Any of you old timers ever play "telephone" as a kid?

It's amazing that there is no "official" declaration as to what exactly they plan for that place. They should advertise whatever it is they are putting there and start enticing the demographic that they are targeting.

But even if a hint of what you've heard Joe, is true, it's very hard for me to understand why they would do this knowing firsthand what kind of clientele is loyal to the Cal. The clientele there is predominantly older and gambling orientated. Not sure if they would take kindly to DJ's, ( or even know what they are, lol!)

A part of me is intrigued yet a part of me is also dismayed. While the Golden Gate and the D were somewhat successful in attracting the younger crowd, I think the Cal will fall flat on their ass if this is what they are trying to do. Not to mention that they (the Cal) is off of the main Canopy by a block; I doubt that the young'uns will be willing to venture away from the main crowds.

Ooh, I don't think the old dears are going to appreciate that racket!

I actually use the Cal as my home base as I like the quiet (both in the casino and the room). I'm (a very old) 28 year old.

Will be staying there from Dec 22 - Jan 1. Will have to see how it turns out.

the reason I enjoy and stay at the Cal is the lack of drunk 20 somethings....I can relax there and play low limit BJ without the drunk californian children flashing cash and breasts

Hmmm, that Buddha area is kind of tight now, or is the new cashier by the bell desk? Or by the WOF machines? Or maybe they removed some of the slot/vp machines near the Buddha to open up a cashier there? I know there is an open area by the 2nd floor bathrooms, between the bathrooms and Ethel M's that could probably hold a cage.

The old cashier area was huge but also held offices in the back. I would suspect they could reduce the size of the cage in half (and still have a cashier there), I thought that PP area was not a bad size, esp if you get rid of the bar area (there is a bar area in the PP) but I don't have a feeling either way about making the whole cashier area into a restaurant. I do think it won't be big with the Hawaiian blue hairs if they are trying to make it into a "club" type of thing, they will need to have 2 sets of doors to keep the music noise out of the casino. As others have mentioned, the Cal is more for the older crowd and they make their money off the older crowd. Not sure how they will do if they want to try to do things to attract the younger crowd (guess I will be playing more at MSS from now on). So what's next, resort fees? Dealertainers? Loud music? That is not what most want out of the Cal.

Its on the other side of the wall of the ramp that leads down to the lobby, across from the Keno lounge.

I'm not buying in to the 'Drai's North' rumor. I suspect it'll be noodles and no DJs. Maybe I underestimate the I.S.G. (Island Senior Girlfriend) rave crowd.

I wouldn't mind a more upbeat place than 777 for some later night drinking at the Boyd properties, especially if I can drink on B-Connected points. Hell, it could be identical to the 777 and just add a TouchTunes jukebox and I'd be happy.

Putting a cashier cage at the top of the escalators near the restrooms would be inconvenient in my opinion since ALL of the gaming tables are downstairs. That "Buddha" area is not big so you can bet most of the people trying to cash their chips will go there. Unless they change the machine lay-out in that area I foresee a major cluster f*ck there.

I hope this is just temporary like you mentioned.

My friend was there last weekend. He said that a worker said that they are renovating the cashier cage area.

As for cashing chips, the old cashier cage only had 3 clerks at most working so with 2 clerks upstairs and 1 clerk downstairs it should suffice (for now). BTW, he said that you can only take out markers upstairs, not by the cage by the Buddha.

Edited to add: Don't use this as gospel, probably best to wait until the renovations are completed to see what they did with the place.

I noticed today that the temporary wall in front of the old cage by the pit says "new casino cage coming soon". So it sounds like it will be returning to its original area.

Maybe they plan to shrink the cage a little, while expanding the new restaurant. As Makikiboy mentioned, there's always only 3 clerks at most at the original cage anyway, and if I remember correctly, one of them were for Emerald players exclusively, unless there were none that needed service, then they would help you.

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. Nothing concrete yet but I was planning a trip in mid or late Jan. Hopefully everything will be done by then.
