    My Trip Report

OK, not much of a trip report because unlike some who take copious notes and remember the little details, I forget most of them.

We traveled on Thanksgiving Day and I know nobody cares about our flight times etc, but I just want to mention that we drank for free on SWA because it was a holiday. We’ll be doing the same thing on Christmas Day, arriving in Vegas at 2:30 PM.

Anyway, our big Thanksgiving meal was at the 777 Brewpub. I had steak, my wife had the traditional turkey, dressing etc. We met a former cocktail waitress from MSS for a relaxing dinner. She now works at the Hard Rock.

Nothing exciting to report for the rest of Thanksgiving Day. We both came out about even, which is a victory in my mind.

Friday, we were playing on our normal #1 & #2 machines at the Boar’s Head. My game is DDB for dollars but for AGI tax purposes, I really didn’t want to hit a W2G, but I still like playing dollars, so I was playing JOB. I figured the only thing that would hurt me was a Royal. As you can see I only held one card and hit this.

It’s tough to be happy and sad at the same time when you hit a Royal. # 18 for me. I think that $4,000 is going to cost me $9,600 in back taxes because I took the Affordable Care Act health care subsidy which was about $800 per month. We have to buy our own health insurance.

Friday night we had a nice relaxing dinner at Second Street Grill in the Fremont. Tony was our waiter and is top notch. He could also easily be mistaken for a character in the Sopranos!

Here is where the lack of memory, or notes comes into play. We both won Saturday and Sunday, but I have no recall of where we ate. We watched the great game between our Packers and Patriots at the bar at MSS. After that kind of a blur.

Monday I remember! We went over to Chicago Brewing Company for a pizza lunch. The thin crust is always good! A bartender friend of ours finished up and was playing on the number one machine. She hit DDB quarter aces with a kicker on #1. We finished our pizza at a high top and headed to the bar. Since #1 just hit, we were playing on #2 & #3. My wife was having no luck on #3, so she decided to try #1. After just a few hands, she was dealt this:

Her 32nd and third one dealt. This question comes up from time to time. When it's dealt, it locks up the machine. Impossible to make a mistake.

I got a little tipsy Monday night and played craps. I know three people at the table had a hell of a run, myself included. In the morning I woke up and counted the wallet. I had another $1,500 in cash and black chips. I’m not used to black chips being in my pants pocket in the morning. Usually they are empty!

Misc…VMB members okpabst and driver stopped by to say hello. Of course I was on machine #1 at the bar, but it had nothing to do with my VMB wristband. They just knew to look for me there, and oh, maybe because I was wearing an Aaron Rodgers jersey on Sunday.

For the entire 5 days we were at MSS they were out of these 3 tap beers at the bar: Black Chip, BIPA & the Brewmaster Special. How can you call yourself a brewery and be out of 50% of your tap beers at the casino bar?

This one also pissed me off. I know if you want Internet in the room, it’s $10 per 24 hours. But, this was the first time we brought two devices and they wanted to charge per device! I complained to the GM and he says they are going to re-look at that fee after the first of the year. Who knows?

Main Street is still down to one lane of traffic in each direction, but a worker told me the entire project will be done on Dec 19. All the traffic is on the east side of Main Street and I’m not holding my breath. This project seems to have been going on for a year!

Played a little VP at Plaza and Downtown Grand and both had 9/6 JOB on dollars.

For the first time in years our SWA flight left from the B gates. We have almost always been in C and got to use the “secret” TSA entrance. Never anybody in line.

Anybody know if you can get to the B gates using that secret TSA C gate entrance, or are you stuck with B if it says B?

We both purchased the Known Traveler status early this year. I think it was $90 each for 5 years. Anyway my wife’s ticket didn’t have the TSA pre-check on it. When I complained to the gate agent, she explained that there still are random TSA checks and it can be dropped off the ticket. That sucks!

Playing on my card, we put about 55,000 points, in 5 days, on my card score. A little less then normal but I was playing a little more at Plaza, DTG and 4Q, just in the hopes of getting some room comps in the future for my relatives.

Hope I didn’t bore you. We’re back in 21 days!

Congrats on #18. Going from quarters to dollars is quite a jump in my book. We play quarters and halves.

Did you pony up for two internet devices? It's wireless, right?

Can you explain mroe about how hitting that royal flush cost you in back taxes? I never really understood all the nuisances of the different taxes out there when it comes to gambling.

Not only is that a dealt royal but it's a sequential dealt royal! And in the suit that had the highest progressive! There are a few banks out there that pay extra for sequential royals. Rare these days though to find one. Sam's has one for nickles I know.

    Interesting points I hadn't noticed.

I don't play VP much at all...I had assumed a dealt royal wouldn't require you to hold them. Wonder how many people have screwed that up and lost a royal because of it.

The machine locks, as Joe said. No effort required. Dealt 4 aces with a kicker won't lock the machine, but a dealt royal will.

Congrats on the royals! I am also a fan of the thin crust pizza at 4queens.
    Thanks for the report.

Wow, what a lucky trip for you guys! Your wife did very well winning such a high progressive on quarters. Sorry to hear about the tax implications though. That's got to suck, winning...yet losing. Ouch! At least the craps win didn't count against you.

So if you win another Royal at Christmas, would that make things better or worse? I don't want to wish you one for Christmas if it's going to set you back!

Going to have to play no more than quarters at Christmas and avoid all progressives.

We have no wages since we are retired, so it is a crap shoot on how much income we receive from dividends, interest and capital gains. We are very close but until the funds mail out their exact numbers in mid January, we're just doing an educated guess. 2014 was a good year for the US stock market.

You guys, our northern neighbors certainly have the right idea on health insurance!

Hey, way to go on the Royals! Man, dealt sequential royal, that has to be pretty damn rare.

Joe, which machine is #1? The one on the far left as you face the bar, by the waitress station? I'll look for you from now on. I love that bar, more for the beers than the VP...

Thanks for the trip report! Great to get a Royal but sucks on the taxes. Would it have helped if you were playing .50 or quarters? Congratulations on your wifes Royal also.

Also glad you had a great run playing craps. I recall you kinda put that on the backburner because you weren't having much luck. It's fun when you catch a heater, no?

Good luck on your upcoming Christmas trip! All you VMBers going often is making me jealous! My work situation is slowing down. As soon as that happens I'm heading out!!!

About 1 in 39 million when you include both directions.

    Nice hits Joe!

Yes, it goes #1-16 starting at the waitress station. The reason we started playing there is those first five machines used to be the Treasure Chest games before they pulled them out. They still have two banks of them on the floor near the cage, but they are coin droppers. I'm spoiled with TITO.
