The good news is that SLS has a $25 table that's double-deck (but H17), and hand-dealt. It's in the back by the passage to the convention center.

The bad news is that I got my ass handed to me. Ouch.

Can you double-down after splitting (DAS)? Sorry about the beat-down. My worst session loss ever occurred on a 0.19 percent house edge double-deck game that Luxor pitched back in '06. (S17). Sometimes you can seek out the best rules but variance can be a killer.

As far as I can recall, yes on DAS. Basically, normal Strip blackjack rules, just lower limits and fewer decks. A decent-enough game, but I wasn't a fan of the casino and cocktail service was pretty spotty.

Doesn't the Luxor still pitch that game in the HL room?

I have heard SLS casino atmosphere sucks. What seems to be the sentiment for this?

I personally didn't like it. Two major problems: (1) The design aesthetic, with the unfinished ceiling and all that, just didn't appeal to me. It's fine for a restaurant or a bar, but it'd hard to square betting $50-100 a hand in a cheap-feeling environment. (2) The layout was very odd. The casino is dark (which I normally like), but ringed with brightly-lit restaurant spaces. It felt jarring to look to the side and see Katsuya acting basically like one of those sun-lamps.

As to the restaurants, too, they were both too sterile and too open to the casino. I didn't make it to Bazaar, but most of the restaurants just open right out onto the casino floor, while being insanely brightly-lit. I had originally gone down there with the intention of eating at either Ku Noodle or Katsuya, but was pretty turned off by the way the spaces looked.

This is all just my reaction (and probably off-topic... I'm working on a trip report), and I really, really do want the place to be successful. But I'm getting less optimistic.
