    Hey all,

Im heading out in Nov, staying at the GG.

My other half is arriving a couple of days after me and i wanted to squeeze in some poker before she arrives.

I have heard that the GN has a 2-5 game that is not capped. Is this true and if so has anyone here ever played in it? Whats it like?

I normally play the 2-5 game at MD live but have been taking shots at the 5-10 game when its run.

Of course all of the above is no limit holdem.

    Thanks

Can't comment on the 2-5 no limit game but I played 2-4 limit holdem there on an ACG $60 for $50 coupon and had a good time. Lasted a while caught a couple hands but nothing substantial. This was my first time playing poker in a casino (I play at home with buddies every now and again) and I didn't feel I was totally outclassed or anything. Drink service was good and there was a guy having some take out at the table. Pretty casual environment.

I can't reply on 2-5, but due to their no max buy-in, the evening 1-2 often plays much like 2-5.

its 1-2 that runs. Just fyi, its not on Bravo, Comps are if your "play" around 4 hours they give you a $10 food voucher.

The game itself like other have stayed plays like 2-5. Some dudes will buy in for 5K or more other a few hundred. Its a wild game, just depends on who is there.

I've never seen 2-5 at GN. So if it does go, its very rare. the 1-2 is uncapped.
I've also witnessed some of those big buyins. I don't get it; the biggest stack at the table is 500, there is no need to put 5K on the table.

If your seated see a guy that looks like Luis Guzman at your table, ask for an immediate table change.
He does not shut up. He goes on and on about his blog, and about the hands.

Oh man don't want to start Tony Bigcharles thread hijack but crap but is Tony aka TBC, aka sevencard2003 aka Luis Guzman doppelganger, sill playing at the GN? I'm guess not surprised as it's one of the only casinos left that he hasn't been banned from. I've met TBC a few years back as I use to post to a poker forum and he was looking for me and he's not that bad and I believe harmless. The guys autistic and can't help but talking non stop about daily gambling losses or wins and his blog etc.

I've been playing in this room for years and have never seen a $2/$5 NL game spread. To be honest probably not necessary as others have stated the $1/$2 NL games is uncapped and can often times play like a $2/$5 game. To me a good game is a soft one not necessarily one with a lot of money on the table. This games are GN are hit or miss but overall generally good. Oddly enough in my experience I've had more luck during the morning or early evening in these games vs. late at night games.

I do recommend always checking in at Binions before playing here. I think it's a nice room and when the $1/$2 games are running I feel they are better than the GN games.

It is, this guy obviously hasn't been to Vegas in a while. As far as locals go I'm one and I wouldn't really go out of your way to avoid them unless their the kind who just sit on promos and most of those play limit. With poker rooms everywhere now almost everybody from out of town can play. There's really only one kind of tourists you can count on being terrible anymore and thankfully not one of them can make it through the first five minutes at the table without yelling out "HOME GAME" or "BAR LEAGUE".

Sounds good. This is not a poker trip as if it was i would be staying on the strip. I just wanted to get a feel as to what i was getting into at the GN. The games I play in at MD Live are amazeballs soft all the way up to 5/10 NL. So it sounds like i should be fine.

Is the 1/2 game at Binions still uncapped? I always preferred Binions over GN for poker.

Vegas will be definitely be tougher than Maryland though. Maryland is probably one the softest markets in the country thanks to the "newness" of the casinos, and the amount of money people are freely willing to dispose of there. I wish St. Louis was like that...I might bother to play live poker more.

MD live is unreal. When i first started playing the 2/5 i would regularly fold TPTK based on flop/turn agression. This was unitl i figured out that more often than not getting stacks in on the flop/turn with TPTK was showing a profit. I know that sounds like bad play but trust me your equity in these spots is good most of the time at MD live.

Binion's gives good comps for poker play, so it does attract the locals. However, there are LV visitors who prefer staying downtown (I think it is mostly an aversion to some of the stuff on the Strip), and you can find them playing at Binions when they play.

The poker room is well run IMO, except for the inevitable confusion at the front desk. It's one of the rooms I would classify as "old school," which provides an atmosphere that someone like Brunson would appreciate, if not for the exclusive rooms he frequents.

When I was in LV for the Fourth, I went into Caesar's and sat down in a 2-5 NL game. There were 2 other tables going; one was a tournament wrapping up, and the other (behind the glass) was Tom Dwan and a bunch of Asian business tycoons. I know the house hates a room like that, with only 3 tables, but the players enjoy that type of environment better than one overrun by posers from NY and LA. I get that same kind of vibe in Binion's, that the room is there for the players, not for the rake.

Guys do as you like. It really doesn't hurt to take a minute walk to Binions to see what's running at Binions before sitting down at the GN. I would argue that I have more hours loggged at the GN and Binions playing $1/$2 NL than both of you combined. Yes Binions has some promotions like it's cashback that brings out a lot of the OMC nits. At the same time in my experience it location brings in a lot of people from the FSE looking to give NL a twirl. Some of the sofest games I've ever seen have at Binions. Also even the promo chaser local are easy to predict and to push off a hand. If you play Friday night or some of the best weekend games in town or weekend night games you'll see what I mean. If your serious about game selection downtown give it try before playing at the GN.

I would argue you haven't. I've logged over 17,000 hours playing live cash in Vegas. The only 5 places I don't ever play at are Santa Fe and Palace Station, Club Fortune, The Plaza and Poker Palace. I figure people come to Vegas and help the economy here so I come on here to try to help people out, not give them bad info. I stand by everything I said about Binions as accurate. Do some people wander off Freemont and play there, yes. Is it common or something you can count on, no. During the Binions Classic and WSOP they had one table of cash going and it was the same guy's who play there every day. That's mid summer when your never going to any more people who play poker in town and on Binions property. I guess if your downtown it's worth checking out, I just know what your going to find 90% of the time. Thanks for your advice on game selection.
