What to pack for Vegas in November??!!??

Hi guys,
we're coming to Vegas on the 1st November, our first time. We are just wondering what clothes to pack. During our stay we'll be driving out to Monument Valley for 2 days. Warm jackets?? Shorts?? what do we need??? I'm told it can be warm during the day but we may need a jacket in the evening???

Weather does have big swings in the desert. I would much rather trust the forecast at weather.com or some similar sight that what somebody here shares from last year, etc.

Anyways, other than your drive out to the Valley, in Vegas your dress will vary depending on how much and how far you will be walking outside. With chilly temperatures, we often avoid jackets as you then have to wear them around the casino for hours on end. 5 -10 minutes outside cold is usually tolerable.

 

I'm wondering the same thing as I've never been to Vegas in November. We did October last year and daytime was beautiful, but evenings very cool. I hate to have to deal with a jacket.

 

As no wisely suggests, check the historic data at any of the weather sites and then assess your tolerances and pack accordingly. Regardless, packing layers is pretty simple.

BTW, Monument Valley sits at about a mile up, or two-plus times higher than Vegas proper.

 

100% agreed! I hate dealing with jackets. If I'm inside 95% of the time, I dress for that comfort, not the 5% I'm crossing the street. But I'm the "exception" that's for sure. I'm often with people who bundle up like they're crossing Siberia when it's 55 out and we're crossing the street... then they complain about how warm they are inside the rest of the night. My intuition has always told me that people who post a thread like this (and it's frequently asked) are probably more sensitive to it than I, so should definitely bring a jacket and long pants. Better to have them and leave in the room, than not and wish you'd brought them.

 

I guess it also depends where you live. Someone from CA or FL will be very cold in Nov.

 

Understand......we are worried about getting everything we might need into our suitcases for our NYE trip. Never been to LV during a cold month. Sure it will be very cold when we leave Louisville airport and hate dealing with a coat!

 

Chapstick or lip balm. The lack of humidity does not bother me in vegas in the summer but in November and December for some reason it really becomes an issue.

 

We've been a few times during the colder months of November, December and January and the biggest thing I've found is: it all depends on how much you plan to be outside.

Outside during those months it can get cold, especially at night, getting pretty close to freezing, but even when its not (high 30s to mid to high 40s) it can get windy at night, sometimes some big gusts, and that can get pretty chilly.

However, when you are inside everywhere will have the heat cranked up so that its in the low to mid 70s, and personally I found most casinos felt really hot and stuffy when they are really getting busy at night.

Our first winter trip to Las Vegas was at the end of November and for that trip we packed almost nothing but heavier clothes and I was finding that most of the time at night I was feeling yucky in the casinos because it was so warm and stuffy so wound up having to go to the mall to buy a bunch of light shirts and stuff to wear.

The other thing was: if you are from a place that normally gets cold during the winter months you might want to bring a pair of shorts along - they take up so little space so it shouldn't be a big deal. Being from Vancouver, BC when the temperatures here get in to the low 50s come spring thats pretty much shorts and light shirt weather up here and in Las Vegas during the cooler months it can sometimes still get up that high during the day and can be nice to get out and about in shorts during the day - mind you the locals will all be wearing really heavy winter coats and parkas at the time, but even on our New Years Eve trip there were lots of people out during the day in shorts.


So my advice would be: pack a variety of clothes. It will get cold at night, it might be cold during the day. Layers is a good way to go because if its warm you can always take a layer or two off and if its too cool at night you can always put another on.

 

What Auggie said. Outside in Vegas, approaching or in winter, wind protection is the key. Forget heavy anything. Layer, layer, layer. That will cover for what should be chillier conditions out there on the Colorado Plateau.

And I must be an honorary Vancouverian. I had shorts on for most of our 10 days in Whistler and Vancouver during our just-concluded trip. Actually had a couple folks ask me if I was from Washington, as apparently the Evergreeners approach thinks like 50s and a bit of rain with my attitude ... pants just get wet.

 

I've been to Vegas early to mid october and I've been to Vegas for NYE. I actually will be in Vegas october31-november 4th so this will also be my first time there in November. Think i'll wait to pack until i'm a day out from Vegas and know the weather reports are accurate and everything. I'm a tshirt and shorts kind of guys and i'm always outside so this weather is crucial for me.

All depends on what you're used to. Our first trip was the end of December and we were wearing tank tops during the day, others were running around in ski parkas freezing their asses off, it was a bitter 65 degrees. LOL. When we left home here in Seattle it was 38 degrees and stormy.

But then last December it was down in the low 30's and high 20's at night.

Lots of variables here.

 

It's always more difficult knowing what to pack in the spring and fall than summer and winter; and as already mentioned, temps can vary all over the place. Taking your indoor/outdoor plans and comfort level into consideration, I'd suggest doing what I'll be doing on Sunday. Namely, check the Vegas forecasts on a variety of sites and pack accordingly.

Take two suitcases with one for "hot" climates and the other for "fall" type temps. If that isn't feasible, bring summer clothing with a few light jackets and sweaters.

 

Since it's your first time in Vegas you'll probably want to do plenty of sight seeing. Therefor, bring a jacket and enough long pants. You might want to watch the Bellagio Fountains and the Mirage Vulcano at night. If you have to wait ten minutes for the next show you'll be glad to have a jacket and long pants when it's windy and cold. During the day it can still be warm enough for shorts...Also take into account that de AC in the casinos can blow a pretty cold wind in this time of year, so you might want to cover your neck when your gambling during the night. It can get pretty chilly when you're sitting still at the same machine for quite some time with the AC blowing in your neck.

 

The casino is the same temp all year round.

Therefore I pack the exact same thing for every trip.

 

That is probably true but somehow the AC doesn't seem to bother me as much when I've been outside for a large part of the day in 90+ temperatures. When it's in the mid 50's outside, somehow the AC makes me feel cold a lot faster
