what kind of planes are these people flying in that have seats that recline so far back? On southwest flights, you barely notice the person in front of you is reclining.... the worst thing is that you may need to move the angle on your laptop screen a bit.

I have to disagree with you. I fly SWA exclusively and if the person if front of me reclines all the way, the tray table is in my gut. I am big guy, but not of unreasonable proportions. 6' 2", 215# with a 38" waist.

That bugs the crap out of me. I paid for a ticket just the next person. I am allowed to recline my seat, sorry if it bugs the person behind me, but I have a right to recline my seat deal with it. I'd love to know if the guy using the knee defender had his seat reclined. Either way he has no right to stop someone from reclining. If you don't like it pony up the extra cash for a better seat or if Flying SWA get on the plane first & sit in the front row so there are no seats in front of you to recline....

The airlines need to announce before every flight that the seats recline and that those in the rear seat need to STFU about it.
In more diplomatic words of course.

The other thread ran off the rails and went to the great trash bin in the sky. Hopefully this one can remain a bit more calm, courteous and reasonable.

    Thanks!

i think your right. i just flew southwest on my last two flights and the seats dont recline as much as normal seats. i think people who dont like someone in front of them reclining should stick to the discount airlines like southwest, spirit, and allegiant where the seats dont recline too much or dont recline at all. otherwise you cant complain if someone is recling, you can only ask them nicely if they can put there seat up.

There is a difference between "I can" or "I am allowed" and "I will, regardless." It is the latter, self-absorbed bubble that causes a lot of angst and friction that easily could be avoided.

In the case of the knee-blocker, he was a selfish pud, and the flight crew needed to deal with him accordingly. Then again, flight crews mostly do not deal with the selfish malefactors well if at all. Like a sidewalk in a crowded city an airplane is a place of public accommodation that requires a certain sensitivity to ensure that everyone gets along as best as possible within the accepted standards of public comportment (there are no "rights" involved with this stuff whatsoever, not in the sense of what most sentient Americans think of as rights). If the dude behind you is eating or the gal has an infant in her lap, don't be a dick and slam the chair back simply because there is a button there that allows it. Maybe ask or at least advise? Maybe wait until the activity has ceased? It's like not pissing all over the seat or the bathroom floor, the all important courtesy flush ignored, someone might think he has a "right" to do that -- "Ive taken care of my needs, eff it." It's just bad, selfish, childish behavior.

I'm one of those people who demand the person in front of me not to recline while I recline fully on the person behind me.

There is a sense of entitlement among passengers on flights within the US. It may happen internationally too, but I don't fly internationally so I can't say. This sense of entitlement makes passengers feel like they can recline, but nobody else can. They can bring a carry-on bag on to the plane that takes up a whole overhead bin by itself (yes I have seen this happen and while my bag didn't have to be moved, others did and the FAs allowed it to happen). These are the same types of people that will talk on their phone as loudly as possible when out in public so that everybody else can hear their half of the conversation. Personally, I have a bigger problem with the people that talk loudly on the phone in public or the people that bring extra large bags as carry-on items than I do with people reclining their seats, but obviously that's just my opinion.

Personally, I don't care if the person in front of me reclines or not and I'm 6'3" and about 210lbs so I'm not small. I will ask them to put it up during meal service , if there is one, and if it reclines enough that I can't get out of my seat or in the are case to get something out of the overhead bin. I've never had a problem by asking nicely. I was on a SWA flight recently and there was a large passenger sitting in front of me and as soon as he sat down, his weight made the seat look like it was fully reclined, but it wasn't. After takeoff, he reclined and he seriously was in my lap. I did have to say something to him because I couldn't even move my legs.

awww, I missed out on the fun. I created that thread but didn't get back to it until after it was deleted so I didn't see what became of it (out of control). Guess I should have mentioned to keep it civil.

I think the main problem is that the airlines are scrunching more people in already tight environment so any (what people regard as) "takeaways" of precious space sometimes elicits a response. Hopefully stern punishments and banishments from the flight will deter many "altercations" on the flight. It also doesn't help that they serve alcohol on many flights, that is another problem area that gets people kicked off of flights.

So what was said to delete the last thread? Guess some people have strong feelings about airline seats.

mdlee knocked it outta the park.

    Self entitlement is running rampant.

I would LOVE to see one of these miserly CEOs who run an airline come out and say "You know what? We're going to remove one or two rows of seats in all of our planes to help alleviate the sardine can feel our passengers have when flying."

Lost revenue on those 6-12 seats? Yeah.

Higher passenger loads as people rush to book on that airline? Yes.

Would I pay more to fly on a plane that was configured like that? Yes.

I like Rocky's approach....maybe have a sub fleet of planes in your airline and call them some catchy ad phrase like "explorer class" one up from coach but far below a first or business class.

I wonder what he math would be to make it come out even with current sardine revenue.....I'd pay $50/ each way for an extra three inches ?

    ....that's what she said.......

    haha nice

I would also like to see a breakdown of what it would take to make that work. I would pay $50-100 more per trip. And with 6-12 less seats, bodies and luggage for those bodies the weight is less therefore a fuel savings too. How much fuel? No clue.

If the entire plane was like United's Economy Plus or had the room of the exit row seating it would be heavenly.

You guys are aware that every time fares go up $7 there are a dozen threads on here claiming it's the end of air travel, if not a sign of the apocalypse, right? :poke:

    haha yeah, good point.

But there are also people who willingly fly Spirit too. So they can keep The Greyhound Of The Skies in biz while the new roomier airline is charging more so people can stand up without falling down in pain leg cramps after a three hour flight :headbang:

I'm with ya. I'd love a FC/coach happy medium. Forget the free food and booze and extra service. Just give me some more room and a less uncomfortable seat and I'll gladly pay something between FC and coach.
