    Hi

Tried posting this in the "Vegas after DarK" section then I realized most of the traffic there is about hookers and strip clubs. An advance apology to the mods if you feel this an inappropriate topic for discussion.

I read that the a petition is being circulated to present to the Nevada legislature that would call for a vote on the legalization of marijuana. Do you think this will pass? How do you think would it affect vegas? Would it help or hurt casinos?

Just interested in hearing some different viewpoints and perspectives.

Considering that states (cities, counties, the Feds) are looking for ways to get more tax dollars into their coffers and the fact that the younger generations don't have the same views about marijuana as some of the older folks do, it seems to me that...

Wait. What were we talking about?

I hope it passes. I hope all states will eventually legalize it. So much money is wasted trying to control the most harmless drug in the world.

I think they will at least allow it off the strip so they can make money from the revenue but i don't think you will ever be allowed to just fire up a joint in a casino.

I think you are right about that Eddie.

From what I have read, Colorado has really benefitted om the tax revenue they have been raking in.

Look, states can afford all kinds of morality...riiiiiiight up until there's a budget deficit and they know they'll be voted out of office if they raise taxes.

So what has happened? Many states that didn't used to allow liquor sales on Sunday now permit it. Bye bye, so-called morality. Hello, revenue! States that didn't permit gambling now allow it. Hey there, extra cash into the Treasury coffers!

Marijuana is the same thing. As they realize that they can get moolah flowing in without raising taxes, and essentially create a fee on potheads (I include myself in this esteemed audience), they'll jump right on board.

The funny thing is that you specifically mentioned Nevada. Why is that amusing? Because most states won't legalize prostitution, regardless of the cash states would generate as a result. Except Nevada. :licklips:

I guess if you can buy sex you should be able to buy weed as well.

I see it coming across the United States.....IMHO if marijuana is illegal, alcohol should be as well on a moral level. Alcohol is far more dangerous in every aspect both to the consumer and the people around them.

The problem with legalized prostitution in Nevada is it's too expensive for the every man to afford. A basic party will cost you at least 300 dollars in the ranches. I have a friend who works at one of these ranches outside of vegas in Nye county and thats the minimum for full on sex. You can get away with less if you just want a hand job, but you're still looking at a minimum of 150 dollars just for that.

If they were to decriminalize and/or legalize it in Las Vegas I think you'd see a HUGE decrease in prices at the other ranches outside of Vegas because why travel outside city limits for 300 dollar women when there are women in vegas already offering it illegally for 100 for full on sex.

Just read backpage and or craigslist and you'll see women offering short time rates of as low as 50 dollars. Now the QUALITY of the woman here is certainly in question but some don't look too cracked out.

I assume you are referring to recreational marijuana because medical is already allowed in Nevada. I think that if it ends up working out for Colorado and Washington (it still remains to be seen in the long term) it would very well go hand in hand with the whole "sin city" mentality. Think Amsterdam which in a way is the European sin city where pot is not actually legal but tolerated but also has legalized prostitution. It could be allowed in designated areas both for sales and consumption (not in plain view) and could work to bring in a lot of extra revenue for the city, state taxes or whatever.

It will be legalized someday, both in Nevada and the rest of the country and I think it will basically move from west to east with the Northeast the last to legalize it. However, I think it will be for Nevada residents and not for tourists (which in my opinion would be stupid). The smart move for sin city, at least, is to legalize it and then sell it to the hilt as another reason to come and play in Vegas. It won't be legal on the streets, but legal in your hotel room or per-licensed areas like bars or parlors would be more likely. And of course, they will do something dumb, like not be able to smoke it within 1000 feet of your dealer.

I think it will be legal nation wide in the next 10 years. I live in WA but have never smoked it, it's legal here but still can't due to my job (aerospace)

Can you imagine the money Vegas could make if each casino had a "pot bar" that you had to smoke it in? They'd be rolling in the money.

I think it will happen and will be investing heavily in a "World of Doritos" speciality shop as a joint venture with Frito Lay.

Sorry but until younger folks become a more reliable voting block it's not going to happen as quickly as you think, especially not in a state with so many seniors. I am for medicinal pot and for decriminalization but I can't see myself supporting recreational pot until we see more of the impact on Colorado and Washington. I think that will be the case for a lot of people.

I agree that it will probably be legal nationwide before long.

However, I also agree that if it was legal, you still probably won't be able to just walk into a casino and light up a joint....

I don't quite see it that way. The northeast is largely a very liberal part of the country. It's not the same of course, but see same-sex marriage. And aside from the coast, most of the west is NOT liberal. (It's perhaps more libertarian than conservative and that works in favor of the movement to legalize marijuana). The last area to legalize will almost certainly be most of the deep south.

What I think you'll see more aggressively is cities simply working on a local level to decriminalize it. That reduces the stupid effects--like the hyper inefficient use of police and court resources, but it doesn't provide the positive effects (revenue). As others have noted, that will be the prod to legalize.

I don't think ever in my lifetime that strip hotels will openly allow you to smoke a joint on their property.

Look at the hysteria now when people get a smoking room instead of a non-smoking room and the complaints about smoking in casinos.

It would be an operational nightmare. You'd have fleas sifting through the casino ashtrays looking for roaches, you'd have burn holes in everything.
