I have noticed particularly in carnival games like three-card poker, the dealer although rare, occasionally makes a payout error to the advantage of the player. I was wondering what most people do. What I do is if the mistake gives only me an advantage and affects no other player, I will point it out. If it affects other players, even if I also get an advantage, I keep quiet and leave it to the dealer to discover the error if even discovered at all.

This happens a lot on UTH, esp at PH. I do exactly as you!

Oh my. At PH UTH earlier this year, I was at a table where the dealer missed her own straight and paid a full table after "qualifying" with a pair of 2's. I was the low bet at $50/$200. Other, non-english speaking players were all at max bet. I don't remember the exact amounts, but the house lost several thousand on that hand. After break, the dealer did not return.

Does the "eye in the sky" really catch these mistakes after it happens? I would think they'd be busy looking at action in real-time. And if they saw this happening real-time, why wouldn't they immediately call the pit?

They should probably. The craziest thing I saw surveillance catch was playing live poker earlier this year at my local casino, $3/$6 limit Omaha hi/lo. They had a bad beat drop of $1 when the pot reached $20 for the hand. Apparently the dealer made a bad beat drop on a pot of < $20. No one at the table noticed. A couple minutes later, the floor got a call telling them to refund the winner of that pot $1. The poker dealer was nervous as hell for the next 10 minutes or so...:evillaugh

I was at Cromwell playing 2 hands at pai-gow (lower stakes) $20 per hand and $10 on envy just for fun but one dealer kept paying me greens after me paying my commission on winning hands.

Maybe they were in training but did not complain one bit even after thinking about karma! (Was already down a lot)

Playing BJ Switch a few years the dealers frequently paid out on a push of 22. I pointed it once. Never again, got the stink eye from the other players. Oops. Didn't happen at all last year, they must be getting used to the push 22 now, darn it!

It's hard to win in a casino. Dealers make mistakes, and most go unnoticed. Even as a dealer, I don't sweat mistakes(I don't make ones like the UTH one! but they do happen occasionally) I don't get mad if I catch it afterward and no one at the table pointed it out. Just take your extra winnings and call it a rebate!

Lets face it dealers make alot of mistakes
Some hardly make any others more
In defense of the dealers .....they have to deal most of the time multiple games in one shift and than a little mistake is easy made
So i wont get grumpy if they make a mistake but only if its in my or other players on the table disadvantage i will point it out ( in a normal friendly way dont want the dealer to be grumpy at ya)
Only time i got a bit upset when dealster was making many mistakes and i just pointed it out to pay me and than getting a snappy and grumpy response....yeah i saw that hold on( she didnt see it though, and it was already third time.....couldnt understand she got mad at me, was funny she called the pitboss and was later relieved....all on the table told me it wasnt my fault and that i acted normal and friendly.....well evrybody can have a bad day ofcourse no biggy)

I know i shouldnt interfere but if i see that dealer makes mistake in disadvantage of player at table i say it( and trust me that happens alot and players themselves mostly dont see it)
My view is casinos make enough money so......so if dealer makes mistake in advantage of us players its cool and i keep my mouth shut...and its a fairytale that if dealers make mistakes that the guys upstairs see that and she or he gets sacked or so.......( maybe once in 10.000 mistakes they see it upstairs)

The job of a dealer besides correct giving the cards and paying out or taking your money is to be friendly and helpful.....thats what they always say i want you to win...as you win alot you are more likely to give us tips
When i hit aa or ak suited i tip .....and when winning and you have a nice friendly dealer you are more easy to tip than when u have a grumpy one or someone who is too much over you wanting you to tip him or her.

I wouldnt mind being a dealer( except of the nasty smoke):peace:

Always mention errors in favor of the house. Never mention errors in favor of the player.

My last trip, a buddy and I were playing blackjack and he had somewhere around $50 out there. Dealer paid him and another player pointed out "hey, he didn't win". And the dealer took the money back. Who does that???

I was at a Baccarat Table and everyone bet on Bank and the player won but the dealer push the cards as the Bank won and started to pay everyone. It was a full table and everyone was quite. A guy walks up and see it and says you guys didn't win. He was not even playing. The Dealer did a second look but was half way thru paying the table. The people who go paid grab their chips. I think he realized it but didn't say anything and just keep paying since it was have been a real mess. everyone took their chips paid off commission. I got up and left after that but the Guy standing keep talking about we took money that we did not win.

thinking Karma I just cashed out and left.

    Picture this:
Full UTH table. Everyone is on the 'Trips' bet. The board shows 4-7-Q-Q-Q. Dealer turns her cards over to show a 2-7.
She proceeds to full-pay everyone that had an 8 or better, oblivious to her full-house. Most of us look at each other with a sort of "wow - is this really happening?" look.
Then, this one guy who has a 4-K in his hand hollers out "Hey! I have a full-house (when she "only" pays him for his King-high + trips.)
The rest us dejectedly glare at him (figuring the jig was up).
Well, since she had already paid him, she had to call the pit over...yep - we knew we were doomed.
    Wrong!
Pit comes over - looks at the player's hand (the 4-K guy), and declares "Full-house. Pay him." He stands there & watches the revised pay-out to Mister 4-K.
    And then, he walks off.
    We are all astonished.
When Mr. 4-K's buddy has a chance, he quietly mentions to his friend, "Next time, just STFU, ok? Didn't you see what she had?"

Exactly. I would never point out an error in a player's favor unless I wanted that person gone from the table...and even then, I don't think I would do it b/c of that made up belief in gambler's karma

One of my favorite moments at a fairly full table is these moments where the people who are paying attention exchange that knowing glance of "we're getting free money. I'm not going to say anything, and you're not going to say anything. Let's hope the drunk guy doesn't notice and say something!" I usually tip the dealer a little extra a few hands later to pay back the freebie but not draw immediate attention to it as if I was rewarding him/her for the payout.

A dealer error in your favor is just another form of variance. I don't say anything.

One time I was playing BJ just me and my friend at the table. My friend was doing really well and tipping really well. Then he got cold. The dealer, who was an otherwise good dealer, paid him on 2 losing hands in a relatively short period of time. They were not hard hands to count and they were relatively small bets for the session ($25 or $50) since he backed his bets down when he started losing. He didn't say anything. I asked him about it after and he said he didn't say anything because a) he didn't want to draw attention to it and cause the dealer get heat from the pit and b) he thought maybe the dealer did it on purpose because of his tipping so a little payback once the cards went cold. I told him I thought b was not likely. But it did seem strange, he was a good dealer and they were hard hands to get wrong and there were no other players at the table to notice it.
