View Full Version : Comps at the Golden Nugget?

I've been off this board for the past 7 months or so after having an unpleasant experience at one of the strip casinos. My wife and I are thinking about visiting the Golden Nugget in July and I'm wondering what the comp situation is at this downtown casino.
We stopped in at the GN for 20 minutes or so (just passing through) last fall and we decided we ought to check them out on our next trip to Vegas.
I was wondering if anyone had hooked up with a GN host before their first trip to the GN and also how easy/difficult is would be to get comps at the GN. How much gambling do they want/expect for room/food to get comped in full.

Hey Cruiser..
I know that in order to get rated at their tables, they expect $15 a hand, not $25 per hand like at the better strip properties.
Couldn't tell you much about slots and such--I don't play slots that much, and never at the Nugget, but I DO know that if you spend 8 hours a day at a dollar slot machine, you'll get pretty much anything you want (See our March Madness trip report--the part about Joe and his slot machine  )
One thing, though, Cruiser. The Golden Nugget is a FANTASTIC hotel, but compared to it's neighbors, the CASINO isn't that great. There are sooooo many better games within walking distance. The GN is a great place, but it kinda sounds like you want to play for comps.
While you're there, have dinner at the Carson Street Cafe. Great Place!
July, huh? I hear there's gonna be a few people in town around that time... graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Hey Mikey,
Thanks for the quick reply. I plan to play blackjack (green chips) and my wife will be playing video poker (Deuces Wild). I might actually play a little VP too. I'm going to email the Golden Nugget and let them know I'm looking for a host ahead of time and will let them know how much we gambled last year at the Trop (three trips over 16 days). If I have to, we'll hook up with a host during our four night stay. I'm hoping they'll at least give me a reduced rate when we book - just in case the cards aren't working for me.

Cruiser, I'd be interested to know how your trip/e-mailing went. I will be at the Nugget in September, and I am about your level of play. (If they have fair games).

Donvegasjr, I never did get an e-mail response from the Golden Nugget. My wife and I decided to go back to the Tropicana instead. I just posted my trip report from 6/19 - 6/23. Eventually, we plan to check out the Golden Nugget.

Yes, I read and enjoyed your report Cruiser. I sent the Nugget an e-mail 6-11 and like you have never received a response. I wonder what the point of putting a guest services e-mail on the website is, if no one ever checks or responds to it.
I had three relevant questions:
1. How much to rent a Cabana on a Saturday (Sept 6)
2. Can my SO and I combine slot points or not?
3. How much would 12 total hours of $15 a hand BJ/Pai Gow/LIR over four days get me comped?
I understand how they wouldn't want to answer the last question but the first two are entirely legit. I have already made the reservation and still plan on going. BUT like I said why even have an e-mail?

This info in from the GN:
pool cabanas are $95 per day, husband & wife can be on the same slot account, & a $15 average bet would get some meals comped, & the pit personnel would be happy to issue a comp slip for the meals

Our hostess at GN is Mary Johnson and she is a fantastic person. Don't know what she can do for you without your having a history there but it wouldn't hurt to contact her to see what you need to get comps. Please tell her that Nancy and Jeff from NJ sent you.
