I USUALLY PLAY $100-300 A DAY AT THE CRAPS TABLE WHEN WE GO TO THE INDIAN CASINO HERE LOCALLY. WILL I GET COMPED ANYTHING FOR THIS IN VEGAS? IF SO, WHEN DO I ASK FOR THEM? HOW DOES IT WORK? I'M A NEWBIE GAMBLER BUT I LOVE CRAPS! DO I SIGN UP FOR A CARD WHEN WE GET TO THE CASINO OR JUST ASK THE HOST? I'M NOT SURE HOW IT WORKS THERE.

Hey LOV-

I can speak with authority about comps at the craps table. I spent a lot of time rolling the bones at Binions Horseshoe last weekend, and didn't have to pay for a single meal all weekend after I got there.

Buy in for $200, tip the dealers, make a few bets for the dealers if you're winning. Get a players card immediately and hand it to the dealer with your $200. If you've been playing for a couple of hours, just ask the pitboss if he could buy you breakfast. I've never been turned down. After awhile, playing at the same casino for the whole weekend, and getting to know the dealers and pit bosses, I didn't even have to ask. They would ask me if I had dinner (or whatever the next mealtime was), and how many were in my party. Usually they give you a comp ticket with the number of people and how much $$ per person it's good for, and you won't have to stand in line to be seated. It is usually always for a coffee shop meal or the buffet, if the casino has one (Binion's doesn't, so I ate at the coffee shop the whole weekend). After a long weekend of gambling, ask to talk to a host about getting your room comped if you're staying there, or a comped room in the future if you're not.

Just don't chase comps if the table is cold. Take a break and come back later.

Mikey is right on... It depends on the place you actually gamble though. Downtown is usually more liberal with their comps. Betting for the dealers IS KEY!!! They really look at you differently and if they ask you your name, they won't forget it if you keep coming back. The keys to comps is in the asking, all they can do is say no!

I've placed bets for the dealers before but have never just outright tipped them. Do you do both? I feel that I'm pretty generous when I'm winning about placing bets for them but how much should I tip?

Mikey, I read your trip report. Sounds like you really had a good time! Is Binion's your favorite? It's a lot more fun if the dealers are friendly. Of course, if I'm losing, I'll find another table in town.

Thanks for all your input! My sister and I will be there for 4 nights and we plan on having a great time. Hubby decided to stay home so it's just us girls!

Before you play 1 dime, get the players card. Most casinos has a quarter limit before earning points on the cards. When you go to a table, give them the card, and remember to get it back when your done (unless your lucks is the same as someone who posted a past trip report, forgot his card, came back a few hours later and was comped a stay at the Bellagero and meals paid for).

Hey LOV-

Yes, Binion's is my absolute favorite casino in the world. Best dealers in Vegas, friendly place, great atmosphere, fun crowd, great food in the coffee shop and the snack bar. Their drink service is top notch and the drinks are potent.

If you really want to see how their dealers compare, spend a couple hours playing blackjack at Binions, then go across the street to the Golden Nugget. As I said in my trip report--the difference is like night and day, they're not even in the same league. Oh yeah, GN has some great dealers and is a fantastic place, but overall, the total experience at Binions, in my opinion, beats everyone else hands down.

If I had to choose just one place to gamble for every trip to Vegas, this would be the place. That being said, you still gotta visit all the other places, too.

Being downtown, you do see all kinds of degenerates wandering around, but it just makes for cheap entertainment.

Lookoutvegas- When I'm playing Blackjack, I always ask the dealer if they want the tip or if they want me to play it for them. They have ALWAYS said to play it for them. That being said...if I've done very well at the table, I usually tip 10% of my winnings when I get up from the table. But I have no reference point to go on, so I'd like to hear what everyone else does about tipping the dealers.....
