Hi again,

Well, we are back to thinking about the Flamingo for my first Vegas trip

The experience Vegas people that we are traveling with got a room at the Flamingo for $40.00/night with their players cards. However, they want $120.00 a night from me.

My question is...should I book the room directly with the Flamingo @ $120.00 or book on expedia for $85.00. Obviously, expedia is cheaper, but I am not sure how the Flamingo works with their comps.

If I book the $120.00 rate, and we play enough ;) is it possible that the Flamingo will comp us a room? (in full or partial). Or, if we prepay the room on expedia, will they still be able to comp us a room

As always, your comments are greatly appreciated!!

Thank-you,
Lorio :D

If your room is prepaid you will not be able to get it comped. I've never stayed at the Flamingo, so I don't know what it takes for a room comp, but you have no chance at all if you book through a service. That said, the 35.00 per night difference in price is large enough over 3 nights to almost consider it as getting one night free over the hotel's direct price. My advice is don't get hung up on the comp thing on your first trip. Go for the cheapest price and see how you do. Your next trip (and there will be one, you'll be hooked) you'll have a much better idea of how you play and whether or not you should even worry about comps.

I think the Flamingo is associated with Park Place. If I am right, it would take you close to $25 per hand for 4 hours to be considered for "casino" rate (player's card). Some places are lower like 10 per hand, but some places aren't... I think Veegee has a good point, but be careful when you make that reservation through expedia that you don't need to cancel it. Those fees suck...

Get your name in the sytem while you are there and they will send you some good deals from wherever you get a card from! smile.gif

Do be honest, 120 for a normal room at the Flamingo seems quite high. I have stayed there, Friday to Monday, and was only paying 110 a night for a mini suite. Not casion rate rate or anything, just called them up and booked.
Having said that, I also though that apart from location and the pool this hotel has absolutely nothing going for it, its feeling and looking the years its been open and a large portion of the clientel seem to be the shiny nylon track suit crowd...

GASP! Do not insult the Flamingo. smile.gif

120 is way too high to be paying. Go with what others say, book thru Expedia and don't worry about getting comped this time around (except maybe meals).

We stayed there over Thanksgiving week (the WHOLE week) last year for 45 bucks a night per room. (Thanksgiving night and Friday were 70 per room, I think, though).

First, on comps at the Flamingo: I haven't known them to be very generous at all. My parents and I probably poured several thousand dollars into their BJ tables and got basically jackshit in comps. Maybe we weren't aggressive enough. I don't know.

Second, as to the hotel in general: It's a great place. The staff was superb, the rooms were very nice. It is not a gaudy place, by any means. It's very elegant and only remotely themed, which can be a very big plus for those of us who get completely tired of having sensory overload elsewhere. It's just simple beauty, really.

The location is GREAT, the pools ARE amazing and they have a wildlife sanctuary that is very cool. Again, it's not your Luxor or your MGM or anything silly like that, but it is a very nice (and usually affordable) place to stay on the Strip.

I agree; go with Expedia or try quikbook.com or lodging.com; they had the Flamingo for $52/$48 for weeknights the week of April 29.

Do sign up for their players club card. At least a few years ago, they were sending great offers out including some for free rooms; I stayed there 2 years ago for $29/night with a free slot tournament, too (in December, a slow time, but I was there for a convention).
