One thing that I've never bothered to investigate is what is an acceptable or unacceptable table rake in a casino poker room.

If I played slots, and knew for example that a slot machine only had a pay back schedule of 80%, I'd probably skip it.

If I saw a video poker machine that had a lousy pay schedule, I'd skip that as well.

However, when do you tell yourself "this room's table rake is too high, I think I'll go elsewhere"?

Most tables Ihave played at max out at $3 or $5 depending on the bonus'. Max betting equals max rake, so I have never been put off by it. Yet.

One thing they do at Monte Carlo that I like is that they take the rake out 25 cents at a time. The dealer will make change with quarters they have in the tray. So if the rake is 3% and that adds up to $2.50 for that pot, that is what they take. Most places don't make the change and will take the $3.00. This will add up over time.

To answer your question 3% to 4%, with a max of $3-$4 is standard for lower limits. (Don't forget they will also take out an additional $1-$2 to fund jackpots) Hourly rates are common for larger games 10/20 on up and I have seen a larger disparity for these rates.
