All,

In less than 2 weeks, I am going for my semi-annual trip. Staying at the Mirage. I plan on playing some poker at the Mirage (3/6 or 4/8 hold 'em) in addition to the daily tournament at Luxor on Friday. Question is what are your favorite poker rooms on the strip? I'm looking for a room that will be more tourist than locals. I like that vibe better. Also, for those that have done the Luxor tournament, what is the format and how early do I need to get there to sign up for the noon?

Thanks in advance for your help. I apologize if these topics have been covered previously.

I would go with MB and MC. They are all gonna have some locals, but you can pick them out quickly. They will be the forst to throw a hissy when somebody makes an unconventional play.

Also, Excalibur is full of tourists.

Bob,

First off, if the Luxor's tourney format is still like it was in March, I would not recommend it. It's a limit format for the first hour, and no-limit after that. Maybe you would like it, but I found the format very hard to get used to.

The Imperial Palace is a great poker room if you want much more tourists than locals. Monte Carlo isn't bad either, and the Palms (off-strip) was pretty casual as well (although smoking was permitted there which bugged me).

Monte Carlo is good, MB is good, and Luxor is good...

I liked the Plaza as well, I did pretty well there..

Stay away from the Mirage unless you know what you're doing. It's the home to many of the professional players around. It's not uncommon to see some people you recognize from ESPN at their nightlys.

The Bellagio has a dynamic mix. The cheapest they play is 4/8 and generally you have to wait for a seat, but alot of times you can easily pick out the businessman who ordinarily would be pushing out another black to split his 10s except that he saw Moneymaker win 2.5 mil last year.

I've had nothing but constant success at the Horseshoe downtown. It seems to draw lots of tourists because after all, that is where the World Series is played. The old salts that are fixtures there are pretty tight and conserative, so its easy to adjust your play to them too. The Golden Nugget is an ok place as well. But its kinda small.

Thanks to all for your advice. I definitely will check out the MC and may try and go downtown also.

Bob, give the IP poker room a try also. They have a nice area with finger sandwiches, water, cookies etc etc. I really enjoyed the play. The dealers were very helpful to all players. Also your smart by playing a 4/8 game. I just came back in August and I played a 2/4 game and it was good but there seems to be alot more chasers in a 2/4 game than a 4/8 game. I saw way too many people steal pots because of this. I don't know your money situation but if there isn't one definatly do the 4/8 game and save yourself alot of aggravation and alot of talking to yourself! Good luck buddy!

Red Sox,

I know what you mean about the 2/4 game. Back in early summer, I played 2/4 at the Flamingo and can't tell you how many good hands I lost with someone pulling their gutshot straight on the river. Although I'm sure there will be some of that at 4/8, I hope it won't be as bad.

Falcon Rob,

I hear what you're saying about the Luxor tournament but curious as to how early you need to get there to sign up. Also, does anyone know of other daily tournaments like that one that are held during the day?

Rob,

When we played the Luxor daily tourney in March, registration opened at 9AM each day. However, those who were playing in their cash/ring games would get the first shot to sign-up, with any remaining spots then offered to those waiting in line.

It might be best to get up early (if you're not too hungover) and head down around 8AM or so, play some $2/4 or whatever they're running, and you should be a lock to get a spot for the tourney.

Also, you can reserve spots for friends that are still sleeping/passed out, as long as you have the cash for their entry fee.

dfense,

How did you like the format with limit for the first hour and no limit after?
