Hey Gang...

I had another great night at the Tuesday Night Executive Game... graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I bought in for $60 and cashed out for $170 after only 3 hours. I was much more consistent this time, folding the junk hands and going heavy on the monsters, and never got on a bad streak. If I didn't get the cards, I sat out the hand.

I've figured out what "friendly game" means to some folks--sitting and drinking and tossing chips into every pot hoping for a flyer. I LOVE playing with people like that. It's a friendly game, sure, but it's not a stupid game!!! Hell, I've made over $400 off those guys in the past 3 weeks.

I don't have much for memorable hands, except for one:

I was dealt pocket nines, and the flop came up 9-10-Jack. So I had trips going against everyone else hoping to catch a straight, and one guy I was pretty sure had a jack in his pocket. The pot was fairly large before the turn, and up comes another 10. So I'm looking good with a full house, but 2 guys are still betting and raising. I stayed in, hoping I was the only one with the full house...

Well, it's never happened to me before, but on the river, up comes the fourth 9!!! I bet, it got raised, back and forth, and one guy folded.

I got called, but I just said--"You got the full house, huh...." He did, and before I showed my cards he turned over his 10-Jack.

As I turned over my first nine, I said "I got three nines, but I also have a pretty good kicker..." Then I rolled the fourth nine.

Silence. Then swearing... graemlins/cussing.gif

It was beautiful! And a nice pot too. I've never had four of a kind before, so that was pretty cool.

So I'm on a pretty good streak the last 3 weeks, have made over $100 each time. Part of it is luck, a little bit of it is skill, and a lot of it is a due to a couple of guys who just won't fold... graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Mikey,

Great report! I don't think I'll ever sit down and try poker. I just love playing blackjack too much. Can't wait till September.

It should have said the old two pair trick, only two pair of nines. That would of caused more swearing.

Hey Dukie--

I was thinking about that when it came up--the old M*A*S*H episode when Hawkeye said "I have two pair--a pair of RED nines, and a pair of BLACK nines..." (When I was unemployed for almost a year, I saw every episode about 4 times... ).

However, I thought 'the kicker' was a better line at the time, and earlier in the evening I had tossed out "I got a FULL HOUSE, BABY!!! Diamonds over Clubs!!!!" graemlins/laughing.gif Yeah, we had a few laughs...

Being a poker player I really hate to have someone call there hand 3-9s and a kicker 9 or 2 pair both of them 9s. Think about it. When you are getting your ass waxed you don't need that especially when you have a full house. I prefer poker to be more like golf. A gentlemans game. But thats just me. Come on Aug.{1st. trip ever to Vegas} Ohio Bob

You've definitely never golfed (or played poker) with my friends. You need to have a thick skin with that group.

I'm with you, Woodsy...

Ain't nothin' funnier than the smack that goes on at a poker table or on a golf course.

The meek may inherit the earth, but they're probably gonna get their asses kicked, first. ;)

I agree its a gentleman's game, but I also am here to agree with Mikey that some of the best smack I have EVER heard was at a poker table...

When I had my 4 2's beat the boat, I said "Deuces never looces..." and turned over one of them. When they gave me the puzzled look I had to turn over the 4th one. Yeah, one guy was mad(he had pocket jacks against my pocket 2's and the flop came 2-J-2), but the guy with the straight and all the other fellas had a nice laugh.

Maybe i'm just one of those asses, or maybe I like to have fun! smile.gif

I love to run smack as much (ok, more) than the next guy, but I always try to make mine good humored....it's supposed to be funny...even when you're Getting smacked, if it's funny, it takes the sting out of whatever just happened. We've all seen guys who don't get the concept, and are just being mean-spririted a-holes....and we've all also seen idiots who needed to be smacked Down for their own good...I would say the guy at Mikey's table was of this variety. graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
