View Full Version : MGM OR MONTE CARLO
We will be in Vegas Memorial Day weekend with our 2 daughters ages 21 and 24. We will be staying at the Mandalaly 2 nights and then switiching to another hotel for fri/sat/sun. Rates at Mandalay much too high for that weekend. Considering the ages of our daughters, would you recommend mgm or monte carlo......i thought even the luxor??? Suggestions are helpful!

i have had nothing but good comments about all you mention. i would personally say luxor. MGM use to have an amusement park, but there website said it is closed permentally. i dont personally know anything about monte carlo, but i have seen commercials for it, and it looks really nice. MGM is HUGE and so, unless they know how to read a map, they may not like it (i avoid it, and i read maps and have a gps, lol). luxor i know is nice, i am not sure about rooms.

Being a 22yr old male you went to Vegas for the first time this past summer, and will be there again next weekend, I'd say it's a safe bet that it doesn't matter WHERE you stay. Your daughters are going to LOVE Vegas. Granted, I don't know the least bit about your girls....but I can certainly say that I spent VERY, VERY, VERY little time in my room, and have the same plan this time. There is so much to see and do -- I'll be bouncing from place to place. I imagine they will as well. The only drag will be checking out and moving your stuff. Personally, my question would be why bother? If the weekend rates at Mandalay Bay are too high (and I agree, it's not worth spending that much on a room when I doubt you'll see it much), why not just book your whole stay at the MGM, Luxor, or someplace similar? To me, that would beat having to move my stuff.....and deal with the hassle of checkout probably being around 11am and check-in at the next place not being until 3pm.
As for which of the places you've mentioned....an excellent idea to post here. I can't be of much help as I haven't stayed at any of the above. However, I can offer another place to look. Travelocity.com is a popular place to look for hotel rates (though they are admittedly not as competitive as they once were) -- but I don't think many people realize that they include traveler's reviews. Just do a search for hotels in Vegas.....when you come accross the MGM Grand, click on it for the hotel description. There will be a link for traveler's reviews. I specifically remember one person who reviewed MGM caution that there was one tower that is good to stay in and one to avoid at all costs....those kinds of things would be valuable to know. Good luck to you :).

It seems to me that there is more to see and do at the MGM.....if you can get competitive rates, I would stay there. Just my opinion of course. :D

Hey Joan--
If ya move over to the Luxor from Mandalay Bay, you don't even have to move the car. There's a free tram. Out of the ones you listed, Luxor is my favorite. Much much easier to get around in there than MGM.
The casino at Luxor seems to be a little more lively than the one at Monte Carlo. And your twenty something daughters will LOVE the "RA" nightclub, too.
