Hi Vegas Jerry and Shock:
I discovered this Message Board by chance as did many of you, and was attracted by the comradery. We are all so different yet we share a common interest and treated each other with respect. It lacked the nastiness of many chat rooms and Sonya set the tone as she answered all of our "newbie" questions over and over again without annoyance. I have been around for a couple of years I guess; #130! We each see something quite different in LV but this board made the times between trips fun, and the next trip to LV even better than the one before! I found the board interesting, entertaining and informative and would check in several times a day as my schedule would allow. I have tried to return the favor answering whenever I could and offering some information to the occasional newbie who might know less than I.
Things have started to change here recently that made it less fun. I don't care about the Euro against the dollar and I don't like to hear about cheap flights to Vegas paid for by american lives. I really don't want to hear about anyone's disdain for the American administration; that's not why I bookmarked this site.
Though not a prude or religious fanatic by any means, the content and language has come down to gutter level and to the point that I wouldn't like my kids to visit. So as much as I hated to, I wrote the following email to Sonya, but have continued to post, at least for now:
Sonya:
I'm afraid that content has disintegrated to the point that I don't want to be a member. Please replace me as moderator and thank you for all your help.
Today in chat:
"he is opinionated.
Yes i did vote in the last shame of a presidential elction.
Have you ever seen Bowling for columbine?NO?
THEN PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP AND CHECK YOUR FACTS
FIRST!!!
P.S. How Could i have copy of a script for a upcoming documentry? A documentry is fact finding
not scripted but i do have read about what this
documentry will seek to prove!STOP a minute and
think!!"
Thanks,
Jimbo338
It was nice that someone noticed that I wasn't around; I have enjoyed being a Moderator and reading all of your posts as well as honing my "Frugal Skills". Thanks for all your help.
Sincerely,
Jimbo
Jimbo...
I want to thank you for all the kind things you have wrote since I have been a member. I always knew if I needed a question answered early on that you could help me. It is a shame that we all are losing you because of one idiot's comments and views that have nothing to do with this board.
So with that being said, I hope you can post a little bit every now and then. I know I speak for most of us here on this board by saying we will miss your wit and frugalness!
Thanks Jimbo! graemlins/beerchug.gif

Forgive me if I seem a little puzzled here.
If patently offensive or off-topic messages are posted in a forum, doesn't that forum's moderator (along with Sonya if it's not one of her forums) have the ability to simply delete the offensive message? -- Do that often enough and the offender(s) would most likely get the point and leave.
What pleases me is not that there are offensive postings, but that there are so few of them.

I think all moderators have the ability to delete messages. Not sure if you can do it in any section or not, but it's there and instructions are included in the "welcome" email.
I don't like deleting messages. I've deleted more here than I'd like, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I've tried to work directly with people involved in the bulk of the problems but I don't usually get very far. I'm too nice sometimes I think.
I have to apologize to you all for being absent for awhile.. more on that in another message. I couldn't do anything to force Jimbo to stay, but I'd rather have him as a moderator than leave the board. But I respect his feelings about the tone of things and removed him when he asked me too.
I'm hoping to be back around here for good now and hopefully things will get back on track and we can all talk about Vegas. smile.gif
