Hey, I have a fun idea, and I wonder if it would be possible to implement it.
Is it possible to make a 'Vegas Calendar' type of page...Basically, it would pop up a calendar like in Outlook or an online appointment book--a 'picture' of the whole month, where everyone could fill in the days where they would be in town. It would be more of a visual aid, and be helpful in coordinating meets.
Just an idea I had today.
Mikey
And a great idea at that. If it could be set up that people could put meet locations and then go from there.

I know other boards use calendars but I've never checked them out to see if they're officially calendars or just a different forum to post travel dates....

I know of several message boards with this feature. It's a great idea, hopefully Sonya can implement it here.

That would be nice, but I don't have the ability to do it on this board. I suppose I could find a script to do it elsewhere on the site. If you know of one, email me the link.
I'll look when I've got some spare time.

Ok, follow-up idea then... how about a folder called "Getting Together" or something, and a thread for each month so we can post our schedules in that? After a month has passed, a moderator could clear out those whose countdown is sadly in the negative numbers...
Food for thought - from someone who is on a diet LOL

Food for thought - from someone who is on a diet LOL That sounds like a good idea, probably late for our trip, but for those who go alot or have more time on your countdown that's a great idea.

I think "Getting Together" would fly off topic faster than a, well, pretty fast. IMO, Misc Vegas Chat or the TR section works fine if we're still doing the manual thing.

I had a getting together section before, but it never really took off. I'm happy to add one if you guys want it. Anyone want to volunteer to moderate it?

Sounds like doctor_al would like that job. ;) Seriously, it might work out. I would think that if people were simply encouraged to post their usernames and dates as the topic, e.g., "JR Swift: 7/19-7/26," then others who might be around on those dates who were interested in meeting could read the topic for more details. Just a thought. Really enjoy this board...thanks for making it possible.

I'd think a better forum title would be something like "Going to Vegas" or something like that. Could put all those pre-trip reports in there that wind up in the Trip Reports forum. If you keep the title "getting together" I nominate vegashost and sincityjenn as moderators.

I know this: I have found that many folks planning a visit to Vegas tend to write something like "I will be in Vegas on such and such dates. Will anyone else be there at that time?"
Or they write: "I'll be staying at such and such a place, so look for me there."
Or they write, "Yes, I'll try to be there if I don't have anything else going at the time."
I have found that arranging get-togethers requires effort and planning. When I hooked up with Dr. Al on his recent visit, for example, we exchanged e-mails, spoke by cell phone, agreed on precisely where we would meet, and even described what we would be wearing.
I've seen cases of aborted meetings where folks actually were under the same casino roof but didn't manage to connect because they were not precise enough regarding exactly where they would be inside the property.
Just a few thoughts folks might consider in planning to meet other visitors.

David,
What you say is very true, so I think that less is better. Just have folks list their handles, and the times they will be in LV and it will be up to any interested parties to arrange a meeting if both care to. It does take some work and detail so those that think it is worth the trouble will perhaps meet, and everyone else will just talk about it.
