I've played at Paris many times, just never paid attention to the registration area. I will be tired and out of it after a 5 hour plane ride...so help me out. Where abouts is the Platinum desk? First time through a host...I assume I still go to the Platinum desk and not VIP. I know I will see a seperate Diamond or VIP area, sometimes the platinum is not so obvious.
i believe it is next to the regular desk and there is a separate line/sign
you probably already saw this but there is a map on line-I did not see the platinum desk on it:

Check-in at Paris normally goes very quickly although sometimes the lines for Platinum check-in are longer than the regular check-in lines.

If you are coming in from the normal drive area the check in area is to the right. On the left side of the huge room you will see a door for Diamond Check-In. One of those places I have never visited, LOL.
On the right will be about 15 ??? windows. Very first area is concierge and car rental and then the first two to three windows should have the Platinum sign by them. The remaining windows would be regular check-in. If Platinum is slow, they will wave over others from the regular line.

and when we checked in it seemed like everyone was a Platinum member except us. If you're not Platinum or Silver, don't bother asking for a "complimentary" upgrade either.

It can really vary - I have never seen more than maybe 2 people in the Platinum line ahead of me. There is a big invitational poker tourney at one of the other properties though. Might be affecting stay. I also am not normally checking in on weekend - that might be why my lines would be shorter. I'm usually checking in on W, Th or Sunday.
I will say I have also never tried the $20 trick so I have no idea of the successs rate for it for a Platinum member. I was offered an upgrade for $75 per night in March that included full breakfast for 2 each morning and 2 drinks (per person?) in the evening. However, my aunt & I knew we couldn't eat that much breakfast food so it was not a good offer for us. It sounded like you were eating other than the restaurants - do they have a concierge level for guests somewhere upstairs? This trip I am going to try the $20 at Flamingo since its M/T night - just to see if I can get a GO room once. And then maybe give it a shot at Paris - but I only really want a remodeled room or a NICE fountain view. And if it doesn't work, I have always been happy in my standard Paris room.
