What are they like?

I just made my reservation for September and I want to know what I'm in for. I may switch depending on future offers from other hotels.

I believe these are the worst rooms they have. Small, but if you got a good deal...

Go with very low expectations and you will be fine.

good luck with other offers coming your way.

Assuming you already know that the Plaza isn't the most high-end downtown establishment, and since you specifically asked about the south tower, and I'll say that IMHO there isn't enough difference between towers to write about. I've stayed in both many times, and used to request the south tower mainly because it was slightly more convenient to their small fitness center. Additionally, if the room faced east, there'd be a bit less FSE noise. There's a slightly longer walk from the south tower, but to me that's totally unimportant.

The Plaza's standard rooms vary in size, condition, and amenities and some of my rooms in the north tower even had refrigerators, although most did not. Overall, getting a better room was more of a crap shoot than at the dice tables, and I finally realized that requesting anything in advance was a wasted effort. If you have preferences, ask when you check in! As I've mentioned before, if you find the room unsatisfactory, go back to the desk and request another. It's a hassle to be sure, but I've done it a few times at several hotels over the years and it's always produced the desired results. (I never felt compelled to try it at the Plaza, however.)

I only need a place to sleep, shower, and change; and since my room is usually comped, I don't have many complaints. To repeat what many have said, the Plaza is fine as long as your expectations aren't unrealistically high. I wouldn't be concerned about which tower.

Thanks for the advice folks. Turtleman, my expectations are like yours. I only need a room to sleep for a few hours and take care of the 3 S's(shit, shower and shave). My offer was for a free stay for 3 nights and when making the reservation, I was given a choice between the north and south tower.

Vegas Hag: Way to go! I usually get only 2 free nights.

Most of the time when I make a reservation over the phone (regardless of hotel), I'm asked about smoking or non, one or two beds, blah, blah, blah. Then, several months ago when I was making a reservation (not the Plaza), I inquired why they bothered asking all these questions, since it didn't seem to make any difference when I got there. I was assured that they were merely following the script, and that it indeed didn't make any difference! I believe her. That seems especially true at the Plaza; so if you manage to get a desk clerk who appears friendly, or at least not downright hostile, you might just ask for the best room they can give you in either tower.

I stayed at the Plaza multiple times and have a slight preference for the North tower. Beds are too hard in the South tower and rooms are a bit older.
Sizewise, not any noticeable difference between the two. Easier to get-in-and-out of South tower rooms than North.

Looks like I'm changing over to The Fritz. Got 4 nights free stay and $75 free slot play. A great deal that I can't pass up.
