View Full Version : Las Vegas Hotel Resort Fees

This must be the latest ploy to show decent room rates and kinda raise the price of the room in a round about way. This must the hoteliers scheme that equals charging you per bag that the Discount Airlines are doing now

I recently got an email from the Trop and noticed that they have this "resort fee" now. In small print. How can a place that isn't a resort, charge a "resort fee"???

Maybe a roach fee? But, resort fee?? C'mon now....

I did a search and noticed that this subjest was posted and commented on T2V before here:

http://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30623

I wonder if this needs an update?

Would a Sticky be a good idea, the same as the Cancellation Fees Sticky we have?

People could update the thread and let others know who charges the "resort fee" and who doesn't and what the cost per night is, and if it’s been changed, raised, cancelled, etc, etc….

Just a thought.

Comments?

If this needs to be moved to another forum SH0CK, have at it my friend. :)

Good point Ross.

The Signature @ MGM charges a $25 resort fee.

Hard Rock charges a $9 fee daily.

Very, very annoying! :rolleyes2:

Two possibilities - one, it's a way to retain low posted rates but increase revenue. Two, it represents fees paid to third-party/sub-contractors (phones, internet, in-room safe maintenance, whatever) and is there for accounting purposes, and so that hosts don't/can't waive things that are not "internal budget" items, if that makes any sense.

Resort fee, c'mon! I understand trying to generate revenue while keeping advertised rates down, but this is ridiculous! Before you know it there will be very fine print at the bottom charging $2.00/day for elevators as a conveinence fee! Also being charged a comfort fee by having pillows on the bed. More than likely they already do, we are just not aware of it! :bang:
Could be worse, I have a friend that frequents Greece and was awakened at 2o'clock in the morning by roomservice wheeling in another bed! Obviously startled he said "what the hell is going on?" The reply was simple and firm: Sir you payed for the bed not the room! :peace:

The Westin Casuarina is now charging a $10 (plus tax) daily resort fee. This is causing some consternation among premium members of Starwood's Preferred Guest program since they are charging for stuff that's supposed to be complimentary. But the fee does include free parking in their luxurious self-parking facility, lol.

What a deal for the hotels to able to claim:

"We have not raised our room fees in several years"

In small print- of course our resort fees went up 750% in the same period.

I tend to be wary of Las Vegas resort fees and haven't stayed at the Orleans since it instituted the practice. I have nothing against them, but believe that such add-ons, which are done mainly so the hotel can lure guests with a deceptively lower basic room price, should also be done with a full and transparent disclosure - which you'll rarely find in Las Vegas. You'll have to carefully sift through most hotels' websites to discover that a resort fee awaits you at the end of your stay. In short, it's a small but very annoying hustle, and it's the small hustles that are the most annoying. So rather than aggravate myself - I go to Las Vegas to enjoy myself - I stay away from them, even if it costs me a few bucks more to stay at a competing nearby hostelry that doesn't have a resort fee. At least the hotel I stay it will be upfront about its room price.

I agree that the "resort fee" is aggravating. We stayed at the Orleans in Feb and were kinda put out about it, but then later on we went into their business office and used their computers. My hubby wanted to print out our boarding passes. When he asked the price, they told him that the computer use was included in the resort fee. Almost any place else we've been and used their computers, it cost more than $5,lol. Also, we found the Orleans to be a much nicer hotel than we'd had on our 2 previous trips to LV, so all in all, we were quite pleased.

Boulder Station: $4.95/night

A resort fee at the Wild Wild West? What do they do let you toot the horn of an 18 wheeler thats in the parking lot. Or do they let you use the shower that they have?

A resort fee is a cover charge. You get really nothing for it. Why don't they just add it to the existing cost. calling it a resort fee is just so cheesy.

What are they going to charge extra for next the oxygen that they pump into the casino?

It's as bad as those sorrya** charges from Ticketmaster. Thanks for (charging me) for allowing me to print my tickets at home.

I read in another thread somewhere that the resort fee at the Trop includes admission into the fitness center, which would be a lot more expensive at most other hotels. I'm staying at the MGM in a couple months and would love to be able to hit the gym each night, but it's $25 per day if I'd want to do that. No thanks. I may try swinging a couple passes at the front desk.

The Westin also charges a 9.99 fee they say its for the "free bottle water in the room and free parking" Well, if its free then why is there a fee for it:eek:

Add $5 at Sam's Town, which pays for the "free" shuttle service – use it or not. This reminds me of all those rip off infomercials that advertise something for free – you just pay shipping and handling! At least the "resort fee" is usually posted, while S&H fee often is not. Before long, maybe most hotel rooms will also be free! (Oh, I'll be staying downtown without resort fees.)

I know the fee at Red Rock and GVR include access to the fitness room, not sure if it includes spa access but since most spas are connected to the fitness room I am guessing it does. For people who like to work out this is a bargin in Vegas where it usually costs $25 per person to use the fitness room. At RR and GVR morning paper is also included and one other thing, maybe turndown service or something. For me and my husband the $19.99 would be worth it just to get an hour of exercise in a day.....

I'm with you there. I may be the only person right now griping that MGM isn't charging a resort fee for my upcoming trip. I guess there's always jumping jacks in the room :/.

The casinos first attempt at resort fees was the extra $1.00 for local calls and the room safe charge.
Now it has mushroomed into a flat fee per day.

Casinos will probably start charging a per day fee to park a car to raise revenue.

The resort fee turns a great rate into not so great in some cases.

If you go to Signature at MGM, you'll pay a resort fee that will give you access to their fitness center:thumbsup:

Stayed at the Orleans 3 nights in February...the $5/day resort fee was posted everywhere I suppose so you couldn't claim later that you didn't know about it.
At check-out I questioned/complained about the $15 charge and the clerk called the front desk supervisor over to talk to me. She waived it but warned me (yes, warned me! yikes! like I was a 5 year old or something) that the next time I stayed there I would have to pay it. She then went on to say that other hotels charge a resort fee and I replied that two wrongs don't make a right...anyhow, I got what I wanted -- the $15 fee was waived -- and I felt vindicated but the whole experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Why not just hide the crummy five bucks in the overall room rate and give the guests free local telephone calls for gawd's sake. This two bit money grab just ticked me right off! :grrr: It's such a lame stoooopid way to do business!

Haha good point. Unfortunately I'm stretching my current budget as it is with the really good $69 rate I got for a plain old MGM Grand Tower room. Gonna try a $20 "illegal bribe" into a Celebrity Spa though :). And if I can't get a suite upgrade at all, I'll inquire about a couple fitness center passes instead.
