Thanks for the news link – and it was to me. Thank goodness they said they'd leave the shrimp cocktail alone. We'll see.

They should levy a fine on anybody who uses the "boutique hotel" buzzword downtown.

But I take it as a good sign that these guys are invested in the Riv, and that they bought the Area51's (minor league ballclub) - the latter move in particular indicates an investment in the community.

The Gate has been hanging on, a quick glance at the facilities will tell you that. It's assets are location, history, the famous shrimp cocktail, and a decent sized parcel downtown, mostly used for parking. But it's charged room rates out of line with the quality of product for years.

p.s. I like the little dig Ben gets in at Tavares toward the end of the article:
"The changes, along with development of the Fremont East entertainment district, leave the Plaza, Las Vegas Club and Western Hotel, all owned by real estate company Tamares, among the few properties to not have recent upgrades or specific plans for refurbishments."
:poke:

I hope they still keep the Golden Gate's ambiance! It's one of my favorite casinos to gamble at.

Yeah - I will admit, the restrooms can use an overhaul! :vomit:

I don't want to sound stupid, but what the heck is a boutique hotel? It sounds kind of girly to me.

Boutique hotels usually mean a smaller independent (non-chain hotel) that is a bit more upscale/modern in its furnishings with a higher level of service. Because of it's relatively recent successes, some chains are trying to position themselves as boutique hotels.

I love gambling at the Golden Gate. I was unaware of "Club 1906", though...that is good news to me. We've spent a ton of money there, but I always felt that part of it was going down the tubes because it was comp-less. I'm not sure about the rooms, anyway, though...I haven't heard the best of things about them but if they improve them, maybe I'd want to stay there.

I really hope they leave the piano, too. This is without question my favorite blackjack casino.

boutique hotel means forget it!

Usually small and expensive. How many of us have stayed at the Artisan or the Royal resort?

OK...you got a Rembrandt on the wall, but no gaming?

boutique hotel downtown usually means "I hope I can find financing for this deal".

Of course they'll keep the piano -- it wouldn't be a "boutique" hotel without it!
