View Full Version : LVA cracking down on trades
Our friends at LVA have had a policy restricting the trade of POV coupons. Now, it has been extended to the American Casino Guide.
The primary purpose of these coupon books are to get a person in a casino and I can understand why LVA wants to restrict trading. It can be considered an abuse and may shed a poor light on the LVA and ACG.
As an avid coupon trader the last couple years, it got me thinking. Is it ethical for me to continue making trades?

The posting of something like this just makes me have more respect for you Chef. :nworthy:...:nworthy:

How could they possibly enforce this?

That's exactly my question.
My thinking is you bought them so they belong to you so you can do what you want with them.

This has caused some interesting consternation for some over at LVA, to the point of near hysteria in a few cases, which gave me a good chuckle contemplating how those folks handle real trauma in life.
I've given away my fair share of coupons, and even whole books when I'm done with 'em. I'm not into the whole trading culture; if I don't need it, I just give it to someone. And I have benefitted in the same way. LVA has had a ban on POV trades at lasvegasadvisor.com as long as I've been a member. We can all debate until we're blue in the face as to whether it's a good or bad thing for casinos to have Joe Doublewide coming in for 30 days in a row with a 25 buck matchplay, but that proves nada.
I've not bothered to pick up the phone to ask Anthony Curtis the why and how of the ACG "ban." But Becki -- LVA's customer service person -- certainly has posted as to what's up, and it doesn't take a particularly deep-thinker to figure out what's up. But from some of the reactions at LVA it appears there are indeed a sizeable number of shallow-enders.
It's not a question of legality or morality, and I can't see any of the coupon services saying that. If anyone has coupons he/she wants to trade or give away, that's perfectly fine, at least from my point of view. Or it is up until the time that participating casinos, restaurants and the like quit making them available. Some of the Chicken Littles just can't seem to fathom that the acts have to be consummated somewhere other than at lasvegasadvisor.com.
And before anyone thinks they can give me a preemptive kick in the cyberballs: Huntington Press (LVA) published my first two books.

In this day of political correctness, thank heavens there is still a class of people that we feel comfortable making fun of! Three cheers for poor white trash.
Let's take this hypothetical example that may have actually occured.
I have made some trades and find myself in the possession of three Rampart $25 LVA matchplays. Since Rampart is off the beaten path, I want to try to unload them all on one trip.
I legitimately use the first one at a blackjack table. Then, I sneak over to the craps table and throw another down before a pit boss can say anything. Now, it gets tougher, but I'm determined to use the final MP as I don't plan to come to the Rampart the rest of the year. I slither over a different grouping of table games and attempt to use the final MP and get caught by a pit boss.
Yes, it is a case of ethics. I'm attempting to break Rampart coupon usage policy. I'm also not using the LVA coupons in the spirit they are intended.
A few months later, LVA calls Rampart to work out couponing details for the upcoming year and they get this response: "We like doing business with you, but don't like the abuse these coupons cause. Maybe we'll back off on offering matchplays."

chef, for me the cringe effect would make it not worth it for me...maybe just stop at 2?
Greed my friend, greed. Not a desirable deadly sin to possess.

Is it ethical to trade for coupons and then play multiple times in violation of casino policy (not Law)? Is it ethical to count cards in black jack? Is it ethical to only play positive EV VP using perfect strategy? Is it ethical to only play slots when a promotion makes it positive as Jean Scott does? Give me a break. Las Vegas casinos are the guys who put the 2nd zero on the roulette wheel and introduced 6/5 black jack. I'll play as many coupons as I can get away with and so far have won over $3000 doing so.

Overzealous usage of the coupons is the reason casinos terminate their coupons or make them far less attractive.

Classless individuals like yourself are the reason casinos terminate their coupons or make them far less attractive.
A bit harsh don't you think?

Perhaps. On the LVA board I'm so fed up with the stink that a small group of the overzealous type made regarding the policy change...but ...as a result I edited my original statement and offer an apology to the poster.

I know that I will not be buying 6 acg books next year since we can no longer trade them... Not even sure if the pov is worth it anymore...
