Has anyone driven out to the Grand Canyon for a day trip? We were considering this but aren't quite sure where exactly we can easily drive for a good view. We didn't want to make it an all day adventure but were hoping there was a nice enough place to get some pictures etc that would be an easy half day trip. The maps we have looked at all look like the North rim or South rim are the place to go but that looks like a bit of a hike from the strip. We're meeting my parents in Vegas for their first trip out there and I'm all about accomodating their non gambling ways if possible but don't want to lose an ENTIRE day at the craps table to do it! any experience or advice would be appreciated smile.gif 5 days and counting YEAH!!!

Getting to the South Rim (the big tourist area) is going to be several hours from Las Vegas.

I've heard of people going to the West Rim on a 3/4 day trip to the canyon, but I haven't ever been there to say for sure how the views are, etc.

If you can do one night away, Grand Canyon is a great place to visit. There are lots of reasonably priced hotels just outside the park. I don't think I'd do it in a day trip. That's just too much time in the car for my tastes.

If you don't mind the cost, there are some air tours of the canyon that leave from near Las Vegas. Click on the tour vegas or Grand Canyon Tours buttons above for more info about them. They can be pricey, but it's a quick way to get to the canyon and back and not have to be away from the craps tables too long. :D

Sonya you're killing me! time away from the craps table AND cut into the craps budget? Nope they're going to have to buy a postcard or something ;)
I think perhaps I'll steer them to the Hoover Dam, thats quite doable in our time frame and not expensive.
Since it's their first trip I have a good list of things for them to do while I play so it won't be a big disappointment. The message board has been a great help thank you!
