Hi it’s Gregg here
I live in the UK and have finally succumbed to the Los Vegas HYPE.

The flights are booked but unsure as to a Hotel to stay in.

I’ll be in Vegas the Christmas week and with 2 kids who require maximum none gambling entertainment. (Pool & rides)

So any advice as to a good Hotel on the strip and can you pre-book the Insanity x-scream big shot @ the Stratosphere.

Thank you for your time

That's a tough one as far as pools go. I don't know of any that will be open in December.

Even though it's the desert, it can get pretty cold there in December. So you might be out of luck with the pool thing.

How old are your children? That may help the gang here give you some good recommendations. If you want something "semi-educational," maybe take them on a Hoover Dam tour. If you have teenage daughters, they'd probably enjoy all of the shopping haunts (Caesar's, Venetian, etc.). Also, Vegas has some "premium outlet mall" that's a little ways from the Strip (haven't been there, just heard about it)...since prices in the US are way cheaper than the UK, you could probably get some good deals there. But on the other hand, you're probably not going to Vegas to go shopping. ;-)

You'll notice that nobody really suggests Circus Circus for good reason. You might just plan on touring some of the different casinos for rides...Stratosphere has the most, but Sahara has a weird backwards coaster and NYNY has one. You didn't mention the kids' ages, either? To do that tour it is either a long walk, taxi, bus, or rental car. The Statosphere is pretty far north of most of the other casinos. The kids would probably enjoy watching the Fremont Street Experience downtown. The fountains at Bellagio appeal to almost everyone. They might like the carnival in the sky at the Rio.

It certainly isn't Disneyland (well, it is for adults but not kids), but I think they'd like seeing some of the stuff in Vegas.

Hey Gregg,

I think the MGM has at least one heated pool open year-round, call them to confirm. There's also a decent game arcade in the hotel, plus the lion exhibit, and GameWorks renovations out front on the strip should be completed by then. The NY/NY coaster/arcade is right across the street. Also close by, the Luxor has some kid-friendly attractions, and the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is worth a look. The monorail terminal at MGM also makes it easy to get to other family attractions at the Sahara, Hilton, etc. Have fun!

Before you decide on Luxor, if you're looking at that, be warned that they're undergoing some serious renovations. The plan is go get rid of most of the family friendly attractions, and replace them with more adult activities. Check with them first, if you're thinking about doing Luxor.

If you need a pool for the kids, check out the Tropicana. They partition off part of the pool area in the winter to make it an indoor pool.

They heat one of the smaller pool areas year round, but I think that is the "adults only" pool.

Rooms can be gotten pretty cheap, but I would say to avoid the cheaper Garden Rooms. Island Tower rooms are $10/night more and the nicer rooms in the Paradise Tower are $30/night extra.
