Hello all,

Well I finally made the move to Vegas. Having come from the midwest, I am used going to local farmer's markets in the summer. In Madison on Saturdays, all of the local farmers come up to the Capitol square to sell plants, produce, vegetables and meats.

Does anyone know if there is anything like this in the Vegas area?

I'm originally from the Midwest, as well, I miss 'em too. Supposedly they have a Las Vegas Farmer's Market (http://www.lasvegasfarmersmarket.com/Las%20Vegas%20Locations.htm) in Summerlin each week. I heard that it isn't too worthwhile so I haven't rushed to check it out. I usually get my produce from Trader Joe's. It's better than what I find at Whole Foods, Smith's, etc. If you check it out, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

For information like this (and other fun stuff) I like to read Heidi Knapp Rinella's Taste of the Town column--that shows up on Wednesdays in the LVRJ (since I'm not local, I read it online) in addition to the restaurant reviews that come out on Fridays. The Taste of the Town column is fun and she answers reader letters about where to find stuff (actually, what's nice is that other readers answer questions too)

Here's the link to the index of her columns: http://www.lvrj.com/columnists/Heidi_Knapp_Rinella.html

Sue, the place to get meats and produce is Sunflower Markets. THere's one at Pecos and Trop and one somewhere out west on Flamingo.

The Pecos store opened the week we moved in to our house here, and Von's, Smith's and Albertson's immediately fell off of our shopping radar.

I haven't had much luck with produce at Sunflower (Flamingo and Rainbow), but I pick up other odds and ends there.
