Hasn't even gotten warm here yet...Well, since most everyone who participated last year wanted to do the live draft, if we start things up now, we will be able to secure a decent enough draft time. The last that I looked, most weekend days and times were still available, which works out best for all who want to particiapte.

Reviewing last year a bit, we discussed a live draft, with the backup of submitting a ranked list to the commish (me) to be used in your absence. If interested, say so, and volunteer an approximate "when" - I'm thinking ideally it's the weekend before the first game. BTW "live draft" can mean using the Yahoo live draft system or we just run it via our chat board and I'll post the results.
Another suggestion I found in last years thread was expanding the playoffs to eight teams, so Jer could get in. Since it's a for-fun game anyway, expanding the playoffs makes sense, provided we get 12-14 teams overall.
Scoring is currently same as last year, if you didn't like it last year now's the time to say so:
Passing Yards (50 yards per point)
Passing Touchdowns (6)
Interceptions (-2)
Rushing Yards (20 yards per point)
Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Reception Yards (20 yards per point)
Reception Touchdowns (6)
Return Touchdowns (6)
2-Point Conversions (2)
Fumbles Lost (-2)
Offensive Fumble Return TD (6)
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3)
Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3)
Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3)
Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4)
Field Goals 50+ Yards (5)
Point After Attempt Made (1)
Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)
Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (7)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (4)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)

I'm figuring we do the live draft over chat here, so if you can't make it, you send me a ranked list beforehand and I'll take the top remaining player when your name comes up. Computer doesn't enter into it b/c we'd be bypassing that step.

Add me to the list that prefers the Yahoo draft. More than likely I will not be able to do a live draft with my schedule. I have no problem ranking players but there is a huge difference drafting strictly by a 1-225 ranking and drafting according to need. The auto-pick function takes both into consideration using the ranking as a go-by and filling position need in later rounds as well. While I'm sure the Commish is capable of doing this, it would be too much work if multiple teams could not make the draft and you know damn well that somebody is not going to like their picks and start bitching about the draft . Better to let the computer take the blame if you ask me.

Weekend before first NFL weekend is aug 25th, and I think a bunch of folks are busy that saturday.
No, sh*thead, it's not. First NFL game is Thursday 9/6/07. Which makes the pre-season weekend saturday 9/1/07. And from the book of Yahoo.com, chapter three verse sixteen --
"All drafts (live, auto, offline) must be completed prior to 11:59pm PT on Saturday, September 8 in order to receive scoring for Week 1."
So, if you're in, here's the deal: 1pm Central Time Sept 1 2007, *your ass* needs to be on-line on T2V chat for the LIVE DRAFT. If your *candy ass* cannot make that, you need to get a ranked list of (14 teams x 15 players = ) 150-200 players to me prior to the start, otherwise I'll take the bass-ackwards Yahoo list of ranked players, and select the BAP for your team on your turn.
Oh, and we'll be logging chat. Because that's some good shiat. And just because it wasn't your intentionto pick Randy Moss with your first round pick doesn't mean we're not gonna have some fun with it. And yes, if you can't make the live draft, you're at a disadvantage, fine, now you've got a story to tell Mr. bartender next time.
Game.
On.

Here's my thing - it's more work for me to do the chatroom thing, but I get more control and/or flexibility in running it. Which mainly comes down to flexibility in "when". But there is an open slot for 1pm CDT on yahoo, so I booked it. May be easier for those just submitting lists.
So as of now we're booked for Yahoo Online draft, 1pm CDT 9/1/2007
Oh, and i forgot to mention but I bumped the playoffs to eight teams, so weeks 1-13 are regular season, 14-16 are playoffs, and 17 is "off".*

Not sure how well that will sit with the family if I'm online at my brother's house while the party is on but we'll see. I'll have a draft list prepared just in case.
Next question: How is the draft order determined and will we know in advance what number pick we have in the first few rounds (after that it's a crapshoot anyway)?

I'm in one league that uses http://www.random.org/ to generate the draft orders. He generates a random order for every other round with even number rounds going backward from the previous round. It was suggested to do it serpantine (only generate one time & follow the same sequence throughout), but that got turned down in a vote. On the website you can use the Sequence Generator and have a set # assigned to each team or just enter the team names into the List Randomizer. It would be nice to have a draft order in advance regardless of how you do it.

Serpentine, Shel! Serpentine!
(source (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079336/quotes))
It's possible to think too much about this. I hear what you're saying about the draft order, but I'm letting Yahoo do that, just like last year:
"If you do not set an order before your draft, we will generate a random selection order for you. Regardless of which method you use, the order reverses each round so the team that starts the first round ends the second, while the team that ends the first round starts the second."
Still don't see where it sets that order, tho.

Are we thinking about a chat room draft to coincide with a Yahoo draft? Basically, I just need to know where to submit my draft list and I guess I'm confused as to how this will all take place. :confused2:
I'll submit a draft list (either to Yahoo or Doc Al) for my picks because when I'm not working 15 hour days or working on my house that flooded 3 months ago and is still in disarray, I have other commitments like my niece's birthday party this Saturday at 1:00 (which I'll have to leave early because I have to work 5-midnight).

Tuesday or Wednesday?
I've received a couple negatives on Wednesday as well. Unless there's a groundswell for Tuesday night, we'll just leave it at Saturday. Read on for what that means.
Basically, I just need to know where to submit my draft list and I guess I'm confused as to how this will all take place. :confused2:
Case 1) we stick with Saturday. Set a draft list on the yahoo site. There is a default one on there that Larry, at least, will be using. :poke: The yahoo draft thing is pretty cool, it has a little chat window, plus it lets you know who is/isn't still on the board.
Sounds like some people would be doing the autodraft on Saturday. If you're not there to pick, it selects the next player off your list, although I think it does try to fill all the starting spots first. However, if you're not there, it waits the whole 90 seconds before doing the autopick. That is tedious as hell if it's more than one or two teams doing that.
I've got 5 can't-make-it-saturday's, if there's more, it might just be most fair, and expedient, to just submit the whole league as an autopick draft. Then it's just me clicking the "ready" button at the time we would have drafted (Sat 1pm CST) and then less than 72 hrs later you've got a roster. Either way, set your draft list on Yahoo before 1pm Sat just in case.
Case 2) we move it to a weekday evening (not looking likely). In that event, you'd send your draft list to me, I'd send mine to somebody else to cover Sarbanes/Oxley requirements. Those that could make it live would get on the chat room here. I'd pick off the lists for the remainder. More work for me, not as cool, but I'd do it if we could get everybody together "live in chat" that way.

Dude, have you looked at the teams they have played. We have beaten 3 ranked teams at the time of playing them. 2 are still ranked. Not to pick on Ohio St., (they are a great Team btw)they have only beaten 2 ranked teams as well. All four polls have them at #2, so if it walks like a duckEagle, makes noise like a duck Eagle and flies like duck Eagle, then it must be a duck A BC Eagle!!!!!!!!
As far as the Celtics are concerned, I haven't crowned them champs, not by a long shot. Its just nice that they are fielding a competitive team for once.

Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f$%k the prom queen.
- Sean Connery (The Rock)
OK.. Let's look at this week's matchups and how it setups the playoffs:

#6 Sin City Monkeys
#5 Tenn. Moonshiners
Meaningless game. Both teams are in, due to the total points scored. The loser just gets the short straw and probably plays the #2 seed next week. The winner, could possibly jump all the way up to #1 or #2 seed with losses by ORANGUTAN!, Raider Nation, and Surfers On Acid and a weak showing by Maine siberians.

#1 ORANGUTAN!
#8 Fremont Ramblers
Ramblers need to win or a loss by FiftyonBlack AND Rocky's Rockets to make the playoffs.

#14 NOTTHETEXANS
#12 AGGIES!!!
Loser of this game probably gets the title of last place, and the first pick in the McFadden sweepstakes.. Oops, this isn't real football, sorry fellers ;)

#2 Raider Nation
#9 FiftyonBlack
Raiders are already in (WTF?!?!) but need a loss by ORANGUTAN! to sure up the #1 seed. FiftyonBlack need an impressive win and a loss by Fremont Ramblers or a Rocky's Rockets mediocre win or loss to make it.

#11 roid' rage
#4 Maine siberians
Maine siberians are in, but need a win to sure up at least a #4, possible #5 seed but could possibly jump all the way up to #1 or #2 seed with losses by ORANGUTAN!, Raider Nation, and Surfers On Acid and a weak showing by the winner of the Sin City Monkeys vs. Tenn. Moonshiners game.

#10 Rocky's Rockets
#13 runnin4daylight
Rocky's Rockets need a VERY impressive win and a loss by Fremont Ramblers, along with a medicore FiftyonBlack win or loss to make it.

#3 Surfers On Acid
#7 WhatWouldLTDo?
The Surfers are in, but are clinging to the hope of a possible move up in seed with a win here. WhatWouldLTDo? need to score 30-40 points to clinch a birth in the playoffs.
