Anyone else watching or keeping updated on the US Open? As I write, one person is below par, one person is at even par and the rest of the field is over par, with the projected cut at +9.
I have a little cash on a couple guys, both of whom are at least still in it, thankfully. Should be an interesting weekend.

Cabrera can certainly make a bunch of guys happy.

Hey where is that Jack Nicklaus fella, where is he in all this?
Lol, just kidding,
You gotta love a course that is divided by the PA turnpike. Who picked that location.
Ken in your professional opinion, do you think that will have bearing on the tournament?

Got me. I don't think the turnpike has affected any of the other majors at Oakmont since it was punched through (I believe along an old railroad r.o.w.). It was a problem for spectators until the new bridge went in, which allowed the Open to return.
The guys at +11 should take up a collection to thank Cabrera.

My favorite player is at +11, so I'm inclined to think of Cabrera as a ... well, Angel.
eta: about the time I hit "enter" the cut moved to +10. Holding my breath now!

He birdied 18 (9 for him)???? Holy cut-move, Batman.
Adios, Phil.
Better go check the USGA web site.

Oakmont Country Club had to build the bridge in order for the US Open to return.

Even with the new bridge there have been huge backup of fans trying to cross the turnpike. Taking people sometimes 20 min to cross. The players have their own private bridge to cross. I live not far from there and it was wild driving under that bridge and seeing all those people above the turnpike.
Not only is the course winning but so are the local residents. My friend rented his condo/townhome for 6K for the week. Not bad at all.
Going to be beautiful weather today for the open with no rain last night. I bet the course will be quick.

Chalk one up for the out-of-shape, chain-smoking "athlete".
Tiger Woods looked like he is down to about .01% body fat. Cabrera in shape? Not...so...much.
This excerpt is from an article at Yahoo! Sports:
"Woods looks like he's been dead-lifting Buicks, Cabrera curling 12-ounce cans. If Woods gets anymore jacked up we'll suspect he's been hanging with Barry Bonds. Cabrera is so out of shape even John Daly told him he had let himself go.
Then there were the cigarettes Cabrera kept plowing through. And, of course, the thick facial stubble, which is understandable since who has time to shave when they have to inhale a pack or two a day?
"Some players have psychologists, sportologists," he said. "I smoke."
All of which is why Cabrera was a blast here, where the course viciousness and final-round pressure turned every other golfer into a sniveling mess. Not Angel. He was smiling and joking throughout. During delays he'd juggle a golf ball off his putter, laugh with his caddy and dream of nicotine and nuggets."

The line on Cabrera when I made my buy-in in mid-April was 100/1. There are some happy people today, no doubt.
Interesting fact: The past eight Open champs have been either foreigners, Tigers Woods or Jim Furyk. Ironically, Woods and Furyk are a shot away this year.
