I'm taking a shot in the dark here. Does anyone know of any good independent used music stores in the Vegas area. I'm NOT NOT NOT talking about anything that resembles a chain of any kind. I'm talking about a place that you could possibly walk right by if you didn't know it was there, and when you walk in, there are music posters covering the walls and the stock includes probably as much vinyl as anything else, with the gratuitous hippie-looking guy behind the register who could name off every late 60's/early 70's British psychedelic space-rock band that existed.

No personal experience, but you may want to try Big B's Cd's and Records @ 4761 S Maryland Pkwy or Record City (http://www.recordcityonline.com/aboutus.html).

Well, I finally got around to making my way to Big B's Music Store yesterday, and I'm sad to inform that it has closed its doors. I looked in there and it looked like it had a great set-up. I also found a couple VERY nice reviews of the place online. I guess it may be the sign of the times, but it's a damn shame someplace like that couldn't keep up with the changing times, especially right next to a big college campus!

Rob, anything in particular that you are looking for?

Hey Jim,

What am I looking for? I know you're asking what music I'm looking for, but what I'm really looking for is a place to stave off a little homesickness. There is VERY LITTLE that I miss about living in Bowling Green, Ohio. But one place that I LOVED while there was an independent music store called Finders. Check out this web site to see what I mean.

Pay close attention to the pictures of the place and I think you'll know what I'm talking about.

I usually only purchased something about 1 out of every 2 visits, but I loved just slowly wandering amongst the many aisles of cds and dvds, listening to whatever the staff on duty decided to play overhead, and usually learning a thing or two with each visit. There were several times that I was introduced to a new band that I didn't know about because they were playing it overhead, and sometimes I made a purchase right away. It's the kind of place that not only had the common studio albums of bands such as Jethro Tull, but also the less common live albums, as well as the really f'd up imported s**t that nobody knew even existed!

I understand what you mean. Browsing the store and just getting a feel for what's out there.

I used to go through these stores in Cleveland in the 70's and 80's. The Wax Museum, JP Snodgrass, The Shoppe in Berea, Peaches, Tommy Edwards Record Heaven, etc.

Stores like these are a rare breed nowadays, with the internet and all. Hope you can find something out there.
