Ok... So I've been reading reading several reviews about Pools in vegas hotels and I keep hearing that you must have a key to swim at the Mirage. Does that mean you can swim freely at most of the other resorts pools?

I will be staying at Treasure Island, but I want to check out the wave pool at M. Bay. Are the waves really 6 feet?

thanks

You've got to be a guest at the hotel to use the pool. Some hotels are more strict in enforcing that policy than others. Flamingo is pretty flexible as is Tropicana. Mirage is tight.. they will not only make you show a key, but swipe it through a machine to make sure it works and you are currently a guest before they let you in.

Mandalay Bay is the same. They used to allow you to pay $8-10 for a day in their pool area, but I've heard that's been discontinued.

And, re: the wave pool.. they say that it goes 6 feet, but I've never seen it that high. smile.gif This is how it usually looks - http://www.travel2vegas.com/imgvegas/pics.shtml?mbpool06.jpg

We are going to Treasure Island in Feb. Their pool is closed down for a few months for maintenance. I read that since you cannont use their pool they will allow you to use the Mirage pool (which is much better). so it depends on when you are going....

I agree that the Mirage pool is much better...if you like pool-time, you will be happier if you stay at the Mirage....lots foliage and waterfalls, and a very cool bar right in the middle.

As for six foot waves at Mandalay Bay....I hadn't heard that they go that big...I would be Very surprised if they cranked the machine up that high...six foot waves are Very large when you are in the water...people would definitely be getting hurt...an insurance nightmare, I'm sure.

Speaking of Mandalay's pool....does anyone know how much it costs for one of those little private pool areas? It looked like you had your own little pool and jacuzzi, along with a cabana.. very nice...I'll bet their big bucks...what a blast though, especially on a warm summer night with the tiki torches going!

Trust me, I know what a 6 foot wave can do, I've surfed for more than half my life. I just checked there website and could not find the refference I came across. I have seen several reviews that stated the waves are big enought to bodyboard on and that they were 6 feet. Most people don't know that they measure a wave from the back not just the front view. I was guessing this was the case. Last summer I hit vegas on my way home from Hawaii with my surfboards and people kept asking me if I was going to surf the wave pool. Of course I had know idea there was one in Vegas. I know they have a good one in Arizona.

Anywayz... I'd be stoked if they did. Drinks, surf, gambling in the desert... what a life it would be.

A never ending supply of six foot waves, lighted at night so you never have to paddle in.... can you imagine? hahahahaha

LOL! Would be nice if they had that. Pools always close too early in Vegas for me. I'd rather swim at 10pm than 2pm.

I think that the original plan for MBay was to rent surfboards and have big waves available. When they first tested the pool, 6 foot waves took all the sand off their beach area. smile.gif Oops!

I've seen kids bodysurfing at the pool on every visit and a couple times I've seen a lifeguard out behind the wave break on one of those surfboards for learning.. you know the foam really float-y kind.

I think you'd have a tough time surfing there, even body boarding. It's really crowded there. You think surfing in LA on a holiday weekend can be a challenge, that isn't anything.. they are literally shoulder to shoulder in those waves when it's busy at MBay. You couldn't even get a shortboard in there. Sure would be fun to see though.

I'm with you, I'd rather swim at night with a good buzz goin on or thin my blood a little more in the hot-tub. I don't know why the close the pools so late?

As for you Terry, I got a lil to excited thinking about your comment, that would be oh so nice!

Maybe I'll just hit the jackpot win I'm there and rent myself the pool for a day, shred the bay up.

Yup that sounds good.

This forum rocks!

You are the Manager of Mandalay Bay for a day.... what do you do?

1. create a "surfing only" time at the wave pool from 10pm to 2am.

2. ???

:D
