Let's use this thread for handicapping picks by us racing fans.
Any track is OK as long as you pick before the race.
Today I like:

Fairplex

Guys I hate to be a Monday morning quarterback but on Saturday I was watching TVG and saw that a horse I bet before was running in the 8th at Belmont. I bet the horse before in a few pick 4's but she was running in 1 1/8 and a mile 3/16 races etc etc and she was a speed horse who would stay on the lead til about the stretch then die bigtime. Well on Saturday I saw she was cutting down to a 6 furlong sprint. I live about 4 minutes from Suffolk downs so I said when I go out later I'll stop by and bet her $20-$20.

Anyways I had a previous engagement at 1:30 that ran longer than I thought and I had to go home and get ready for a wedding that I had in an hour so I never made it to the track to place my bet due to the fact of getting yelled at by the wife for being late. Anyways the horse was Win McCool she did exactly what I new she would by blasting out of the gate and stayed there and paid a whopping $33.60 to win and $15.00 to place. I am officially a jackass.

When I told my brother what had happened he said I should always keep at least $100 in my on-line acct but I told him I tried that and I always end up blowing it to stupid bets. Cause if I'm home by myself I'll end up betting it on some $4,000 claiming race at like Mountaineer or something. Just to have action. So whenever I make a hit I always withdraw all the money. Also if I do see something I like I can just run over to Suffolk.

Well anyways what could've, should've & would've didn't happen but hey those are the breaks.

If you put your horses in the "watch" section in the racing form (DRF), they will email you three days before your horses are to run.
Which online account do you use? I use "You Bet" and love it.

Hey Don, I use Winticket. Its free and they take no percentage from your bets like the TVG site. I believe its a sister site of Brisnet or Brisbet. Ya I use something similar except they call it a stable alert. I had the horse there but unfortunately I have to use the house e-mail address and not the work e-mail address where it gets blocked out cause its a gambling site. But anyways this was a busy week at work and I never got on to check my e-mails at home so therefore instead of cashing at the window I now have a wonderful story to tell the friends. Hey thats gambling I have no excuses it was just a DUMB mistake.

Funny I was talking with somebody the other day about the lottery cause the Mega-Millions was at like $160mil and they were saying "You know I would quit my job but after a couple of months I would need to get a part-time job cause I would get bored". I said if I had won the $160mil Horse racing would be my fulltime job. Hey its not like I would need the money or anything just the love for the game is good enough for me.

I love the horses so much its crazy cause even tho there is some luck involved, luck doesn't out way the time that has to be put in handicapping a race. I find it so enjoyable. There is no greater feeling in the world than when after your done handicapping a race you come up with some horse thats like 9-1 and he beats out a 3-5 or 6-5 favorite. It just makes you feel so good. Anyways true horse players know what I mean, you get as much out of horse racing as you put in.

With the Breeder's fast approaching on Nov 4th I'm like a child waiting for XMAS!!

I did that just yesterday, I singled a 3-1 shot over a 3/5 morning line horse in the Pick-3 and received a nice $241 reward. We play the horses every day and am I a winner over all? No, but I have some nice hits and I don't lose too much when I am not winning. Staying in action is the name of the game.
BTW, Fairplex Park has a Pick-6 carryover for Wednesday of $988,000! I will be trying to get a piece of it.
The total pool will probably be between 2 and 3 million.

Good for you Don $241 for a pick 3 is very good. Good luck with the pick 6 at Fairplex I wish you all the best.

Hey Don I get Horse Player Magazine sent to my house and I was reading something on Pick 3's just a few months ago. I believe Bob Nuemier was the writer he had a pretty good formula for doing pick 3's and it's very inexpensive, in fact I've tried it and hit a couple of times. It goes like this:

o Pick a single for each of the 3 races. Example R1 #7, R2 #3 & R3 #2

o Then bet three $1 pick 3's with them using ALL's

o Your three tickets will look like this:

Tix 1 Tix 2 Tix 3
R1 #7 R1 #7 R1 ALL
R2 #3 R2 ALL R2 #3
R3 ALL R3 #2 R3 #2

With any luck you hit your 1st single that means all three tix have action for the 2nd races and your automatically in for the last race with tix 2. And if you hit the 1st two singles your in for all three tix and have a definate winner with tix 1 and you just hope for a bomb to come in unless your single is pretty good then you collect all three.

Say there's 9 horses per race your bill is $27 total and you have 3 tix going not a bad way to spend little money.

Garrett Gomez hit the board in 9 out of the 10 races run Saturday at Belmont.....that is AWESOME!!!

Today I'm going with 2 selections at Belmont.

1. Nunnery the #10 in the 1st race

I bet this horse on Travers day and she just got nipped at the wire by her stablemate. So maybe today Nunnery will hold on. Right now the opening odds are 7/2.

2. Strummer the #7 in the 2nd race

Usually a very good sprint horse but has looked bad recently. A drop in class may be the key. Morning odds 6/1

Red Sox, congratulations on your first pick. I had a couple bucks on both of your picks and made a nice little profit.
As for my choice at Fairplex, he ran a hell of a race and got beat just before the wire. Oh well, next time.
I won't be picking any horses until next weekend, because we are leaving on a cruise in the morning. Best of luck, Don

Hey guys with the Breeder's Cup coming in 2 1/2 weeks any thoughts or picks??

I was looking at some of the fields over the past few weeks and to me it looks like the Distaff might be the best race of the day!! What a field.

Jay, I am kinda a one track guy (So.Cal.) and the Breeder's Cup is too tough for me. One of my best friends is a professional handicapper and I use his picks on BC day. If I am at home on BC day, I may post a couple of his picks.
Best of luck to you!

Thanks Don I can always use the help!

Actually we have have a group of about 10 guys that get together every Derby and Breeders Cup day. We meet up at Suffolk Downs have lunch, play the ponies and make a day of it. Its fun! It's a day out with the guys, we have plenty of laughs and if by chance somebody makes a score thats all the better.

As far as the Classic is concerned I just praying Bernadini gets a nice outside post of like 14 that way it makes the race a little better to bet. Cause if he gets an inside post I think the race is 90% over at that point and not worth it to bet. He's looked awesome not even breaking a sweat in his last couple of meets. The only hope is that Lavaman can stay with him and makes it interesting.

Anybody make any money at the Breeder's Cup? or was everybody like me and got their head kicked in!!

The closest I got to a big hit was having Thor's Echo in part of my exacta with Bordonaro and I got a couple of "Place" returns.

Breeders Cup was a disaster for me. Hollywood Park has been OK so far.
