School is finally over and I will be in Vegas in less than a week or so!
i plan on spending quite a bit of time in Sports Books betting baseball and the horses. Blackjack's sticky is really awesome- thanks! Is there info. that I might be able to use for betting the horses posted some place? I would really appreciate the help.

My trip dates are June 4-June 7.
I was really looking for info. on how and possibly where if anyone knows about any particular tracks. I understand a little about basic betting, i.e.- exactas, trifectas, and boxing/keying them. Just wondering if there is some knowledge about picking horses other than the posted lines. I can read the DRF, but it is so much info. I am not sure where to start. Thanks!

June 4 is the only racing day for Pimlico while you are there....
if you bet on that track..
I always pick A.P. Napravnik mounts...she is an 18 yrs. old Russian gal who has a great record.. brought in a 75-1 horse at Laurel not long ago..
another good rider is Pino..
and trainer's I always bet on are King Leatherberry...Wm.Campbell and Kelly Lynn Bailey...
also if you see in the program that there are west coast horses at Pimlico...their owners have alot of faith in them to bring them so far.
I don't know if this will help..
..but good luck to you..

When you're out in Vegas, go to the sportsbook and ask them what tracks are running that day. Some will be posted on the boards, others won't. There's never enough room to show everything. Then pick a track or two that you want to bet. The sportsbooks can provide you with racing forms, usually free to guests of the hotel. Sometimes they don't even ask.
There is a ton on information in those racing forms. And even if you look at all of it, it's not going to help you pick the winner every time. What I do is pick a couple stats to look at, and focus on those.
What's the horse's overall record? Record at that track? Record this racing season?
What's the horse done lately? On a winning trend or heading downhill?
What are the posted odds? Is it worth betting a 4-to-5 favorite to win pennies on a 2 dollar bet?
Does the horse run better on dirt or grass? Long or short races?
Have I ever heard of the jockey? He/she any good? Same with the trainer.
Just pick out a couple things you understand, and focus on those. If you try to analyze the entire racing form, you'll get a bigger headache than the alcohol in Vegas will ever give you.
Bet more on the winners than you do on the losers.

Also in another Horse betting thread, T2V member Gator5220 listed www.drf.com as a very good resource for help.
Remember trust your own judgement too when placing a bet because if the horse you like is not the favorite your pretty much ok cause Favorites win only at a 28%-33% clip depending on the track.

I also am a rider/trainer bettor. My husband and I used to go to the Meadowlands a lot and I always had luck with the LaChance/Cambell/Mosiev $2 exata box.
I am also a big fan of looking at the horses in the post parade and reading whatever information you can get your hands on. I like to pick up a racing form but it does you no good if you can't read it/don't know what it means.
Good luck and let us know how you do.

Thank you all for the info.! Sam Houston Race Park here in H-Town has a calendar of tracks racing each month. I printed a copy and now I am able to look at what is/has been happening at a couple of tracks! I really appreciate all of your help!

If I or you can find who is running at Pimlico on the 4th...I will give you my best advice.....
another track I forgot to tell you about is Charlestown W.Va. ...they have night TB racing and if you see a horse from "Painted Lane Farm" bet on it...I worked there for 2 years...they don't run their horses until they are 4....
and I will try to find out the info on who is running on your Vegas nights and post my picks...
and another trainer I forget about at both tracks I mentioned is Eddy Gaudet...he has a great rep. in Md. and I worked there years ago...
