....

For 8 of the last 10 months, gaming win at downtown casinos has been down from the previous year.

February statistics show that while gaming win rose 19.1 percent for Strip casinos, and 13.6 for Clark County as a whole, it actually fell 6.97 percent for casinos in downtown Vegas.

Check out the Business section of the Review-Journal for Tuesday, April 11.

p.s. Lady Luck closed during month of Feb, taking out roughly 7% of downtown's capacity (1 of 13 casinos, don't have Sq.Ft. to work from...). January 2006 win downtown was up 13% over same period last year.

The Lady Luck closing is sad news. I liked that place. I also like downtown for more personalized gaming, in comparison to the large hotels on the strip.

Lady Luck's closure is supposedly temporary for extensive renovations. I don't think there would be a huge shockwave, however, if it never reopened.

I'd heard about them trying to put in condos (why pay $30/nite for the room when you could own it for half a mil? ), but never heard they were taking the casino out.

Lady Luck is offline, which doesn't help.

Plus, the Nugget's renovation have certainly made some folks stay away.

Downtown does need to do something to reverse the trend though. Good luck Landry's!

They should just level the entire downtown area and start over...and build a fence around it to keep the bums away.

... not to mention the sheet-stealers.

 I would hate to see it leveled but it certainly has gone down hill. I can say, that if it weren't for downtown, I probably wouldn't have Vegas as high on my vacation list. Gambling is too expensive on the strip, for me, and I can get sun and pools at a lot of other places.

Better yet, ship the bums to Palm Springs. Let the seniors with the moolah deal with them.
