not recently, but about a year or so ago i looked into moving out there. i have some friends who live out there, and they assure me that there are jobs everywhere. check out the review journal online, and check through the job listings. you shouldnt have any problem hooking up somewhere, especially if you have some kind of skill or trade.

craig's list is where I found my roommate, I really lucked out though, she's awesome and we get along really well, and she's normal. What kind of job specifically are you looking for? I'm in the banking industry and I just did a search for all the institutions in Las Vegas and applied to all of them, within 3 weeks i had a job and a place to live. PM me if you have any questions, I'd love to help you out!

There’s a number of ways of finding a job and there’s countless employment opportunities available. Ultimately, how to go about it depends on what kind of work you’re seeking. You can start with Craigslist and the Review-Journal. Most of the hotel & casinos post available positions on their websites. CCSD, LVVWD and other government and utility companies post opportunities on their sites, as well. Also, there are literally hundreds of openings available in retail and sales – help wanted signs are incredibly prevalent all over the valley. Additionally, there are a couple job placement companies in town, for example, East Ridge and Apple One.

Generally, it can be difficult to secure employment prior to your move. Thousands of people move to Vegas each month and thousands more consider it, so many companies will not even consider applicants without a Las Vegas address. Of course there are exceptions, especially if you’re in education or healthcare fields.

Two major fields of employment in Vegas are the service industry and construction. That’s where my husband and I fall. He applied for sportsbook writer positions on-line and he was hired by 2 casinos. He turned down one position down and accepted the other. Within two years, he strived and was rewarded with several promotions. A year ago, he accepted a promotion and transfer to the Poker Room. He’s been a supervisor since then, now a management position is on the horizon.

I applied for clerical, accounting, and customer service positions when I arrived to town. The R-J classifieds and hotel websites were most useful to me. Also, I worked with East Ridge. After a few interviews, I received two job offers: one for a major furniture company and another for a roofing company. I accepted the position with the roofing company – a lead, I received from East Ridge. I’ve received a few promotions within the company, as well.

Construction is booming! Laborers and positions in the trades are easy to come by. There's an overwhelming amount of work to be done, it's hard to keep up... We hire roofers and helpers on a weekly basis. From what I hear other companies in the industry are doing the same.

The R-J ran a decent article sometime ago and it had some good tips for hotel-casino jobs, you may want to check that out, too:

Feel free to ask additional questions or request further information. Good luck with your plans!

Since you're a Canadian, I have NO idea what sorts of visa you'd need to get to come to Vegas to work--but that's something you'll need to check out!

Here's a place to start:

I suppose there are many ways. I would start with the internet and look at whats available in your profession. If that doesn't work, try what my friend did:
1. You pack everything you own and drive to Vegas.
2. You immediately go into a casino and start playing BJ
3. Drink as much as your body can hold
4. Just before you pass out, you let the BJ dealer know that you're new to town
5. The BJ dealer feels sorry for you and takes you home
6. In the morning, you get a job at the casino, doing whatever
* It's just that easy!
