Do you guys/gals play harder courses better than the local muni? I know I do.

A bit about my game: I am a 17. I get a lot of pars and more birdies than my index would indicate, and it's all offset by a couple holes on each side that limit the damage solely because ESC won't let me take more than a seven. I hit drives in the 250 range if my cut-fade is the shot du jour and three large if I have the draw working. I drive a fair number of short par 4s. My putting is flaming hot or icy cold. When I start the day 82 or 107 could be in the offing.

I've played Bear's Best at least a dozen times. We usually play it in the 6500-6700 yard range. I've never shot in trip-digits there and I've put up a handful of scores in the 83-86 range. But put me out at Desert Rose or Legacy and Senor Century is likely to make an appearance. Is it a focus thing? I mean, don't get me wrong, I can go stratospheric at TPC Canyons at times, but overall, I play "nasty" courses better.

You?

Ken,

I usually get beat up pretty badly at the harder courses, but I only play about 10 times a year. I had my game consistantly in the mid-90s back in 93. Son was born, so not much time for golf.A good score for me is 100-105 these days. Anything with a slope of 125 is a tough day for me. Due to a medical condition with my feet and ankles, courses that have steep sloping alongside the fairways really give me fits, as I hit there often. Here are my scores from last 2 golf trips to Vegas.
LVGC-104
Desert Pines-105
LVGC- 108
AP Palm-110
AP Mountain- 117

AP Mountain was the hardest course by slope, and I really fell apart after 13 holes. So I guess I am opposite of you.

Im not the best golfer, but I have noticed that I play better when im playing a course that I have never played before and/or when I travel far to play a course while on vacation, getaway, last minute trip etc., The harder courses bring out the best in me, and I tend to think out every shot as oppossed to just gripping and ripping it and wishing for the best

When im in Vegas or palm springs my "best game" (which is in the very low 100's) comes out. I dont know if its because I drove far to play and I have to make it worth it, or because when me and the guys go away to play, somethign is alwasy on the line (beer, $$ etc.,)
