Just read this article on Slate.

Does this mean rates may be coming down on the Strip?

The thing is that people have been saying this for 60 years (I'm not kidding). Vegas defies all odds.

Myself, I think it is a little over-developed.

My biggest concern is that it doesn't always continue to keep changing, and that some of the older places are left, go ahead and do some reno’s – sure.
- but don't develop Fremont like the Strip has been re-done over the years. Leave some "old Vegas" around for us "Nostalgic Types."

If the tap does go dry and things get tight, there is nothing worse for a place like Vegas then to have some closed and dusty casino's standing on Prime Real Estate, empty for a few years. I remember when the El Rancho was left in a state of neglect, it detracts from the whole Strip area. That place turned into a real eyesore. Same deal with the Showboat, mind you it was way out on it’s own on Boulder Hwy.

I just want it to continue to be reasonably affordable for an average middle class dude like me and not become a place that is "out of my league" looking at it from a cost factor.

Long Live the Plaza, El Cortez and the Las Vegas Hilton!!

Go ahead and raze the IP though, that wouldn't pull at my heart strings at all....

I have been saying on this board periodically I don't like the new Vegas as much as the older Vegas.

I love(d) the low-roller craps tables... such as the Plaza when it was $2 with 10X odds. Yeah... not any more.

Five bucks is about as good as it gets. I don't gamble to win (for the need of money), I gamble for the pure social entertainment value. That's why I love craps so darn much. No more going to Vegas on a $200 bankroll as I used to in the day.

Not too long ago, the Plaza was $.25 with 10 X odds. The dealers hated it.

I guess what I'm hoping for is a chance to get some cheap rooms in Vegas. Since it's clearly one of the most price sensitive hotel situations in the country, it doesn't take much of a drop in occupancy to cause some attractive mailers to go out.
